Introducing the “S” Series of Point & Shoot cameras.
Samsung Cameras (CEO: Lee Jong-gu), has announced the release of the point and shoot ‘S’ series.
The ‘S’ series is great for family use and for anyone wanting ease and convenience. Purchasers can choose from a variety of models: 5, 6, and 8 megapixels in Silver or Black shades.
The ‘S’ series comes with an Effect Key allowing the user to adjust the colour of the photos being taken and also add various creative effects. The range also has an easy mode dial that allows the user to move between portrait, night pictures, and movies, swiftly, depending on the situation.
The ‘S’ series has a larger LCD screen for clearer picture quality. Printing out pictures is easy via PictBridge which enables an image to be printed directly to a connected compatible printer - without a PC.
‘S’ series, a digital camera range for the entire family, features video capabilities (MPEG4, VGA, 30fps) which means it can even double as a camcorder. Advanced features allow “in camera” movie editing and a pause function during recording.
Samsung’s ‘S’ series cameras are expected to hit the market in early 2006.

I tried one of these, boy was I sorry. so much noise that detail was wiped out, flash shots were the worst. the bad part is you can't set the ISO so it gains up in low light making things worse. I took it back in a flash. what a piece of junk!

I purchased Samsung S800 two days ago. I needed a new camera for a special trip. I wanted something to take great pitures as well as great videos. I wanted something easy to handle and easy to learn and use. With the Samsung S800 I got all of these things. WOW I was able to get snap shots of my grandson in mid air jumping off our pool diving board. I love all the features it offers the ease of using them. I love my new samsung and look forward to my trip knowing I have picked the right camera.

Perfect! Bought it six weeks ago, has already taken about 700 pictures + 100 videos from 10s to 8 minutes each. It REALLY doubles as both a normal camera and video camera (30 fps, 640x480 px with sound). The lens is a high-resolution lens matching the 8 MP sensor, so the pictures really come out very sharp. When shooting videos the anti-shake system works very well. Also, the battery life is just perfect -- a pair of 2,2 Ah NiMH batteries give you about 160 pictures + 20 minutes of video.

I have already bought a S800 and I am really very happy. It is a very good camera and the price is very cheap which is 340 AUD.I suggest my friends to buy this camera if they need one...I tried to take a picture in dark room and it was unbeliavable !!! the flash works very well and it was like in the middle of the day ! by the way, it's movies are very good as well !!
I am happy with my S800..thanks to Samsung!

Got the S600 yesterday (26-6-06). Its a beautiful camera. Easy to use, videos come out great, usefull effects. The batteries supplied didnt last an hour so will be purchasing a rechargable unit. Also my dad managed to drop it 4 foot off the ground as soon as it came out of the box and it seems fine. This was not the case with my olympus!! I'll come back after a while and let you know how it holds up.

hi again..
everything is allright with my S800 but I have a little problem...when I am recording a movie while I am using the optical zoom it's cutting the sound but when I am not using the optical zoom there is not a problem with the sound....please can anyone try this,if it happens to you as well then there is nothing to do, if not, I will have to report it to Samsung.
thanks to everyone,

Purchases a S500 digimax and am not happy with it. My photos shows a red line on the left hand. I dont know how to remove it

A consistent red line in the same place on every photo probably means that the camera is faulty - time for a replacement...

The red line is not in each and every photo. It appears only on photos taken in bright light and in Sunny weather

I`ve just recieved a samsung s800 as a birthday gift and I am delighted with it. the functions are varied and easy to use. Taking a pic at sunset with the sunset setting then a normal pic of the same scene saved me half an hour at the computer on my photosuite! I`m a novice to photography and would recommend it to anyone similar.

Hi guys,
I purchased a S600 about three months back. The objective was to take snaps of my baby boy. Most of the shots i have taken are indoors, and they turned out pretty well. I have a few complaints however.
(a) Occassionally, there is a red tint in the eyes, even with Red Eye setting.
(b)The movie clips occupy a lot of space. A 1min video (640x480, 30fps), said to be in MPEG4 format, can occupy as much as 100MB. Is there any workaround for this (like a firmware upgrade etc), to keep the video file small, but without any loss of image quality?
(c) Copying Video Files to my Computer, seems to take ages. I am using a Lexar SD Card (512MB).
(d) Finally, when i play these video files on my computer, I find that the Voice is not in sync with the Visual. Why is this happening? Is something wrong with my Cam???

I just got an S500 and have to say it's pretty good for the price of £89.99 - was going to get a Kodak but this is slimmer, the LCD screen is much larger and it records video at a great size and full Frames per Second.
The user manual that comes with it is pretty useless, but the actual camera is good, and having a built in light which throw orange light on to the subject to help the autofocus work in low light is great,it's night time at the moment and only just got the camera but will try with day time pictures tomorrow.
Also has a 2 Year warranty unlike most cameras, which I think says something.

The quality varies from the type of the camera. S500 is 5,1Megapixel camera and S600 6Megapixel camera... that's pretty ok quality for a compact camera these days. i'm not sure about the other models so i'll just leave them alone
ADEzor at 08:26pm on Thursday, November 09, 2006

Just to clarify the 1st comment by joe, the iso can be set (on the s600 anyway)read the manual. I've had mine a day now, and its really easy to use, picture quality is great, although the movies do take up loads of space. XYZ, have tried an a4 print, came out perfect. a3 shouldn't be different.
The videos are nice and smooth. The addition of a manual exposure set in picture mode is a definate bonus for the budding phototogropher, as most camera's on the market at EUR150 are idiot-proof, so don't come with this feature.
Defiately use Energizer lithium batteries, don't waste time with alkalines on NiCds.
9/10

I've just given my aunt the s500 - I bought it for her and really sad to see it go. In just one week I took about 500 photos.
Samsung have made a pretty decent camera for the money this is now selling at, I always used to shy away from cameras with big screens as they ate batteries but now with a set of 4 rechargable Ni-Mh batteries of 2,600 mAh being sold for less then £4 in the UK battery life is no longer a problem took about 250 pictures on a set of batteries with anti red eye flash (i.e two flashes) before they needed to be charged.
The video is smooth - Samsung are really making most other traditional players like Nikon, Canon, Minolta, etc look bad in this price segment.
I only wish Samsung included a made to measure case with the camera as standard, although Tesco in the UK sell a case for £1.99 which just about fits.
I've had about 7 different digital cameras over the years, the Samsung was probabaly the best all rounder,
- good size to hold in your hands
- thin enough to fit in a jacket pocket
- uses rechargable AA batteries which are dirt cheap and so powerful these days
- includes a low level amber LED to help focus
- huge screen
- decent video with sound recording - recording in AVI not that silly Quicktim format which no DVD or DivX Player could ever play back
All I think Samsung need to fix is the picture quality which I think is down to how it compresses the pictures and ad a built in MP3 player as this would be kinda useful.

I purchased the s500 a few weeks ago. The first ten minutes or so I turned on the camera and could take a picture, etc. Then all of a sudden, I pressed the power button to turn the camera on, the screen would show up for a few seconds and it beeped three loud beeps. Then the screen would shut off, and I'm not able to do anything. I thought it might be dead batteries, so I bought two new sets to try out, but its still doing it. Does anybody know how to fix this?? Thanks!

I had a S500 . I used it for 2 weeks and was not at all happy with it. I have it back to the shop where i purchased it. The problems which i faced were
1) Battery life was a disaster(even with Energiser and rechargables)
2) Picture Quality was a shame on samsung.
3) There was some problem when i used to record video with sound
4) The camera used to hang very often. The only way to restart it was remove the batteries and put it again.
I would like to suggest everyone to avoid purchasing Samgung Cameras. Instead there are lot of options available(like Pentax,Fuji or even Acer(I was very happy with my Acer))) within(more or less) the same price range.
I hope it clarifies and helps everyone wants to buy Samsung Cams

To start off, Any comments about the S800 suffering from severe noise only actually applies to shots in the dark. But lets face it, Its not too expensive a camera. I baught the S800 for Christmas, And it is such a wonderful camera for its price. The only problems I can find about it is probably the noise in the dark, But what you pay for is what you get. Dont expect anything spectacular from this camera, but dont be scared to buy it either, I'd give it a 9/10 for value, an 8/10 for photo quality and 9/10 for functionality. This camera is really easy to use and is suprisingly good for even the intermediates. I would personally reccomend this camera to anyone who is looking for a camera that takes good indoor photos without any editing needed. (Note, Due to built in flash, camera suffers from red-eye.) If you need any more information or sample photos, Email me at

I recently went to NY and forgot to pack my HP camera so I was stuck having to buy anew one there. I ofund a deal at the Radio Shack. The S500+512MB SD card and a 16 pack of batteries for $151.88. Within minutes I was taking pictures and recording videos and good ones at that. I was impressed by the ease of use at first and then with the funcionality and now with the clean, detailed pictures it took. I am by no means a photographer but luckily this camera made it so I didn't have to be and still get good pictures.I took 144 pictures and 3 videos ranging from 1.30 minutes to 3 minutes long and I only used 4 batteries and it all fit on the 512MB SD card.I also must mention that I was taking pictures in various types of lighting dark indoors, dark outdoors, sunny outdoors, bright indoors and they all came out good except the ones that were obviously my fault from moving, wrong setting, etc but I was able to clean them up with Corel.None of my pictures suffered from red-eye, but I did catch one building where you can see the bright sunlight spanning across the front. Now I'm glad I forget my HP camera. All in all, I'm very pleased with this camera, but how could you not be for this price.

Haylee - Thanks for the advice. I decided to get rechargeables afterwards - an Energizer charger with a pack of four 2500mAh batteries, and they seem good. I purchased some Duracell alkaline batteries but they do not work in the camera. Should I buy a recharger here? Or are there any brands of non-rechargeable batteries that will work in this camera? Please help, I'm in dire need!!
Thank you!

Another dead s600 here. Switch it on and there's a whirring noise, 3 loud beeps, then it switches off. Its like the lens is stuck, or perhaps its just a C R A P camera.

Bought the s800 for my wife for a camera for her purse, it is alright, not great, but not bad. For her use, which is throwing it in her purse and using it anywhere to take pics of the kids it is not bad...Plus I only paid $140 for it at Sams Club. I use my SLR for real pictures....anyways in regards to the batteries I would highly recommend buying a small recharge station. We bought a Kodak Charger for $10.97 at walmart and since the camera only uses 2 batteries I use two and store two. that way I don't have to wait the 8 hours for recharge. If you really want nice pics from a digital camera I might suggest getting one with an image stabilizer.

I'm experiencing the same thing as number 63.
I have a Samsung S500 and so far i have been very happy with it-made some thousands of pictures all great so on and so forth.Yet recently the camera lens won't come out the moment I start the camera. It beeps 3 times and nothing. It's not a batery problem because I have rechargable batteries but I do not know what it is.
Can anybody help me with some advice? Thank you

This camera is a joke, i brought it last saturday and as soon as i get the time, its going straight back to the store, its a peice of dogs arr umm lets say poo.
Batteries only last under 5 mins ( theses are expensive battries too) i have tryed at least 4 or 5 different brands, i went though at least 7 sets in one and half days, im recording a video and lost all my work because it just cuts off with out giving me any warning of a low batteries, some times it takes me at least 7 or 8 times to get the thing to turn on. arghhh im sorry i even wasted my money on this. Imgaine a young teenager or child saving his money up to get one thoes to be hughly dissapointed with it known his wasted months of hard work. For shame samsung.

Has anyone had a problem with the Samsung Digimax S600? Often failing to start up.Even with a new set of batteries gives this intermittent fault. Picture quality is excellent on this product, so don't really want to replace it under warranty unless I really need to.

to 93: i also have the s600 and had the same problem but only when my Sony rechargeable batteries have low charge... using standard Alkaline batteries is useless cause this type of batts dont hold theyre voltage, for example the batteries that came with the camera where some duracell with charge tester embedded, and this charger showed it had enough charge.. but the camera wouldnt turn on. My suggestion is that u get some really good Japan made rechargeable batteries!!! ive got the Sony BCG-34HE charger and it came with 4 batteries @ 2500mAh this bad boys really last for a looong time
... just my 2 cents.. hope this helps u..

I finally unpacked these after buying them from Amazon for $99. For the price, I absolutely have no complaints. Sure it eats up batteries like good ol' Jared pre-Subway but that's what nimh's are for. I love the fact you can use plain ol' AA's so for those emergency situations, you can just buy a bunch of AA's at a store and off you go.
Pic quality is a mixed bag. Macro's in the dark is a no-no due to noise. Some of my daytime shots had a purplish hue but nothing good ol' photoshop can't fix. I was quite impressed with the evening shots, expecting complete crap like some have written here but I found no excessive noise to bitch about. Videos are a dream. This beats the pants off my brother's new Sony digital camera's video capture which incidentally cost $100 more. And I can zoom while taking shots too. There is an optical image stabilizer with this camera and it does a decent job. I'm not enough of a photographer to be able to use manual outside of the basic tweaks but so far so good. $99 shipped free no tax, I absolutely cannot complain. One of the best buys I ever made
.

The S500 is a good camera, 5.1 MP is plenty resolution, VGA video is VERY good. It has a good night mode on it, the ONLY reason why the battery doesn't last very long sometimes is because of the LCD. If you want to see the pics you have /videos, just connect it to your TV! I managed to see 30 minutes worth on a fully charged battery and it still had 50% left!! eXcellent! What I noticed is images are blurry when you take them where there isn't much light- THAT'S WHEN YOU DON'T USE A TRIPOD.. use a tripod for goodness sakes!!! do that and you can wave "good bye" to blurry pictures..

"James" - I took mine back to PCWorld to say exactly that (keeps shutting off even with new batteries, only likes Duracells, etc) and the guy there educated me on using "high power" batteries. He plugged some Duracell M4 alkalines in and it worked for ten minutes straight (and then all night, because he gave them to use free). So I got some NiMH rechargeables and they work fabulously well - just don't try "everyday" AAs and you'll love your S600 again like I do!

Thanks James, I now use some high capacity recharcheable batteries and work wonderfully well. I now have figured out that when I often use the zoom the batteries ware down much faster. Otherwise I am very happy with it.Thanks again for your reply.

I have an S600. I'm dealing with the same battery problem (I bought it this weekend and in a lapse of 5-10 min of use, the alkaline batteries were gone).
But now I understand that I will have to use "high power" batteries.
(Along with this problem, or maybe intertwined: ) I wanted to take photos in a half-illuminated place but there was a legend in the camera "No hay suficiente luz" (Not enough light). How could this be possible if the camera have an integrated flash?
Is it related with the lack of batteries power?

I bought an S600 two days ago. I used a pair of regular AA Duracell Batts, then 2 Heavy Duty Duracell, then 2 Super Heavy Duty Duracells. All 6 only lasted long enough to NOT take a picture. Then I noticed 2 Duracell ULTRA batts that came with the camera. Works fine with these but only last about an hour. Manual and Samsung Support say use High Capacity batts. Use batts that state they are for digital cameras.

Ref my message above: The Duracell Ultra batts will last longer than an hour. I did a LOT of zooming, flashing, etc. while I was experimenting and learning the camera.

As many comments above state, the S600 owners manual sucks. However, there is a much better manual on the CD that comes with the camera and can be downloaded to your PC or read from the CD. Possibly some of the problems with poor picture quality are improper setting on the camera menus. So far, all my pictures have been very clear.

I don't know aboutthe S800 because mine is an S600, but I the same problem. My problem was that I was using regular AA batteries. Once I started using Duracell ULTRA's, or Lithium, or Rechargable 2500 mAh batteries the problem stopped. See my messages above 112 - 114.

My Samsung S800 worked perfectly for 10 months (occasional use)although battery life naff! My problem is that I recently took 2 photos at a family wedding, the camera made 3 beeps and switched off not retracting the lens. I have tried all sorts of batteries in it but it only switches on for 2 seconds, makes 3 beeps then shuts down without retracting the lens. I have sent an email to Samsung, but the site seems to cater for usa customers ie usa states and phone numbers etc...

hi guys, i recently invested in a samsung s500, bargain price of £58..... works brilliantly, photos are great, effects etc are fab, very impressed with the video and sound.
it lets me down in 2-3 ways.
1. the cd would not work once downloaded to my laptop as i have vista. i also couldnt find any vista updates to help with this.
2. my big problem and the reason i write this, is because when uploading the files onto my laptop i only had one problem, and that was with a video i wanted to upload. it got the video, but without the sound.... even though it did record the sound at the time, excellently.... ive been trying everything to figure out why it didnt upload the sound but i cant.... anyone got any ideas ?????
the no.3 would simply be that yes, its a battery eater... but most digi cams are hehe
any help re: the sound on my video would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi Y'all,
I had the same problem where the s500 would turn on for only a moment and then beep 3 times and turn off. I found that the lens was stuck and all I had to do was twist it loose a bit and turn it back on. Though some of you may be having more serious problems with the mechanics themselves. Good luck.

Had the same prob as a few of you with my Samsung 530. Turned on, 3 bleeps then turned off. Turned out to be the lens stuck in the open position with the inner lens slightly out of alignment. I wiggled it a bit to free it and realign. Now works as should.
So if you are getting 3 blleps and then camera switches off, try moving the lens a bit.

In reference to 130
Probably the electronics within camera not suitable for taking 4GB memory card. Look up samsung site incase they have some sort of software down load similar to a bias upgrade on a computer that will allow it to accept higher memory cards.

We got given a S800 for our wedding and we have found that with fully charged batteries the camera doesn't always turn when we press the button. If we open the battery compartment and as such "reset' the batteries the camera will work. We have tried to take it back but it works every time for the people in the shop. I am starting to lose my mind! We just want a camera that works everytime!
Please help - has anyone else found this fault or know what we should do?
Jodie at 07:07am on Monday, July 30, 2007
-
My theory is that the camera senses ordinary AA batteries as flat or low power, even if they are brand new and fully charged. I think this camera needs high capacity batteries to work. Mine has also worked if the batteries are removed and reinserted. It also worked by pressing the menu button when also pressing the power button. These fixes are only temporary though, allowing some pics to be taken. After switching the camera off, you have the same problem next time you turn it on. We use a number of these cameras at work, and everyone complains about battery life being really poor, but our work buys batteries in bulk and they tend to lie on the shelf a long time before being issued. Only people who buy their own high capacity batteries seem to have less of a problem. If anyone else has further information or experience of this problem, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Regarding the S500, it is true what what 126 said about the 3 beeps. The lens is stuck - but instead of twisting, I just pulled it out. It works fine if I do that - but based on all the comments, something must be amiss with this camera. This 3 beeps happens to alot.

I'm having the same problem everyone else seems to be having (3 bleeps and then switches off) I have the S600 and got told where I purchased it to send it to Samsung who will repair it, as it cost over £70.
They've been no help and have said it will cost me £48 if I want it repaired as they say it's water damaged (which its not!) and cost me £10 to get it back without repair!! Has anyone got any advice? Think im gonna contact trading standards.

Hi all, when I last begged info from you all I was full of morphine for pain and of course I had had chemo the day before so wasn't great in typing. Anyway, I've used my camera lots since then and its great! even in the darkness! The problem I have, (please help if you can ) is that when I print my pictuires they are darker than on screen. not totally dark but darker! I don't know how to explain better. By the way I mean daylight pictures.
The pics look great on both camera and my computer and my all in one printer, scanner and photo copier is a really good one so I don't think its that. Its been great on everything else from the web. If you can help please do ?..
Thank-you everyone,

For what it's worth, I will type out my solution to the camera shutting down; the problem of battery running down after few shots, the Screen going black and the Three Beeps and Bling sound or similiar problems.
I bought the Samsung S630 in Aug 07 and was pleased with quality and ease of use. Then, out of blue, the camera quit and when ON button pushed, just the black screen and beep and blings and the lens would not retract. I worked on it for days and had it packed and ready to send back to Samsung. But, I thought I'd give it one more try. I hate to admit defeat!
So, I got it out and for some reason, decided to tap it against kitchen table. I tapped it lightly on each Side (not top or bottom) and it started working. And it has worked great since and my granddaughter has since played with it and I've even dropped it and it works! What I think is the camera is sensitive and it got out of sync or out of alignment. I am a 59 yr old mom/grandma and not technical at all, but it seems the tapping put things back as they should be. I use Kodak rechargable batteries and get long life out of them. And when I switch back to regular batteries, I use basic Energizer and camera works fine. And another person suggested you go in Menu and you turn off all settings you don't really need.
I turned off all sounds and I also set it to lowest 1mg for picts. I don't turn it off and on after each pict, but let the camera turn off automatically after few minutes. This seems to use less power than the turning off/on constantly. I don't do a lot of zooming, but I do use the video and it works great. The 'film' of my grandaugher dancing is wonderful.
I wish everyone that has any version of the Samsungs with the problems mentioned would try the tapping very lightly. And also try rechargeable batteries. Someone said to make a note in the camera of the battery type, but I have not done this..and yet my camera works fine now.
Just don't give up too easy as it is a wonderful camera when the kinks are worked out.
all best to everyone.

This is a PS to my previous comment in #166. Also, if the lens won't retract, very gently wiggle the lens back and forth. I also think if they are the least bit out of alignment, the problem continues. I also wanted to add that I took the camera out on the farm when it was snowing--first part of March--and it got snow on it and it was cold and YET, the camera kept working fine. So, don't let the experts convince you your camera is water damaged or mis-used. My camera seemed to go from super sensitive to now being pretty hardy. I throw it in my purse or backpack and do not use a case. Again, I wish everyone else the same good luck.

I wrote few more comments on the Samsung630, but when I went to post it, it says I'm not verifed. Kinda strange since my previous two postings went through fine..#166 and #167.
So, before I type much more, I will see if this accepted.

Ok, the last seems to have passed the test so here are my comments. Mainly, that I wish everyone would have as much success getting the Samsung working as I have. I fooled around with the camera today to see if I could return it to the time it didn't work and of course, the camera keeps working fine! I read the downloaded booklet the Samsung CD-ROM had with the camera and noted a few things. One said when using the camera for the first time, a menu will be displayed to set the date/time, language and battery type. This menu will NOT be displayed after setting up. So, I wonder if part of the problems later come from this. If you used the batteries that came with camera (if yours did) or if you bought some and used them, does the camera automatically set the battery you use? I did NOT set my camera when I first used it except for date. It was already in English mode. Anyway the regular batteries ran down so fast, that is why I switched to the rechargeable ones. I have tried and tired to think IF my problems started before the change or not.
Today, I did fool around with the camera and tried to figure out how to get to the battery setting. I finally did and had it written out previously, but then it wouldn't post. I know I went to the MENU and went over to the Select 2 item and went down the line--I had Overview--0.5, Power off--1min, LCD--save, Video Out--NTSC, Format--NO (and you know that if you say yes to format, you will LOSE all your photos as this wipes the slate clean) and then on the RESET....I hit the RESET button. I am always amazed when anyting works, but this kept my main settings, but allowed me to reset others and the item that came up...under the RESET word was BATTERY TYPE. Funny, as it clearly showed I was still on the regular Akaline batteries...and the camera was working fine. So, I just don't think the setting abt camera battery is all that critical. I went ahead and set the battery type to Ni-MH..
I think there was an ealier post abt the formatting and camera saying to format the card. You would only do this if this is a NEW CARD that has nothing on it and maybe needs formatting for this camera or some other Memory card that has items on it and needs to be removed. But, never, never hit the format if you have photos on it. They will vanish and the memory card will be blank. I think there is a program you can buy to restore them..but I am not sure.
Bottom line is the camera is still working fine and I can't deliberately find a way to make it NOT work!!
I did change the MP from my low setting of 1 up to 3 and I did notice that even this small change makes the battery do down faster...even though I get plenty picts from my Kodak rechareables. I also found in the booklet all kinds of things this camera can do--which does make it a great camera once you get it working.
I made some composite shots of my son, and it's neat to shoot a pict of him, then of his daughter and have them side by side. And they print out so great.
Just please don't give up. If you have new batteries or rechargeable batteries and you know they are charged and the camera says no and it beeps and blings...keep on trying. If you can get the camera to turn on..and hold the shutter half way down to keep the power on..then you can get to menu and maybe make some changes. In the old days, I would know to file down the battery tips to ensure connections were good, but that doesn't apply to these new cameras it seems.
I know this is long, but I just want so much for everyone else to get their camera up and working and I have just been lucky to do something that makes mine work. And it was just tapping camera, wiggling the lens, and jarring something into place. If I knew exactly what I did right, i would type it here instantly.
Please post if your camera starts working and also let us know what you did to get it going.
Sincerely,

Aren't you annoyed though that after spending your hard earned cash, you had to fight tooth and nail to sort the camera out. It is just plain idiotic that the manufacturers don't give you the ability to make settings changes after you have turned it on for the first time. don't these people know that a large percentage of their customers don't read the instructions before turning a camera on?

Yes, Ed, I am upset with the company, but it's not just Samsung. Seems almost everything I buy nowdays I have to figure out on my own. Good thing I don't give up right away, but you are right. It just shouldn't be this way.
Also, I kinda had to learn to figure things out as my husband gets totally off the wall in abt 5 minutes and call it quits.
I kept posting what I had done--hoping that it might work for others.
And the durn little camera is still working great. I would almost get another one as they are very cheap now and I know they can take great picts and do just what I want. But, part of me does hesitate even though I think I could "fix" the problem that I'm sure would come up.
Thanks for your comments. Did you also have this same camera and problem and were you able to fix it?

The major problems with the s800 is that the volume cuts out when you use the zoom. The earlier models dont'. No fix. 2nd, it will only support a 1 gig card, that is in the instructions. Lastly, after a while you loose the codex function in the camera. So your video movies are useless with out downloading a codex. this should not have to be done.
