Sony Alpha A100 Review

Sony A100The Sony A100 is a new DSLR from a company better known for its digital compact cameras. Sony are taking on Nikon and Canon, boldy predicting that they will be the number 2 player very shortly, and the A100 has been heavily promoted by the Sony marketing machine. With good reason too - the list of technologies that the Sony A100 offers is certainly comprehensive. A 10 megapixel sensor, Bionz Image Processor, Dynamic Range Optimiser, and anti-dust, anti-shake and eye-start auto-focus systems are all here. But does the Sony A100 make the grade as a great DSLR camera? - read our review to find out.

  1. I just went to the new Sony Style store at the Topanga Westfield Shoppingtown in Woodland Hills, CA, when I saw this camera on display, and I thought I would check it out....

and, of course, to my disappointment, the thing did not work.

Folks, the store is BRAND SPANKING NEW. It just opened a week ago. The store sits on the first floor of the new wing of the shopping mall that opened to great buzz, as the Apple Store sits above it on the second floor.

The camera's power was on, so I thought great, I will check it out - to my dismay, the shutter wouldn't release, and on the LCD screen, it kept telling me that the lens wasn't attached! The darned thing had a 18-70mm on it, which had a fairly smooth ring on it, and the camera felt typically Sony with its metal and plastic feel that only Sony cameras have.
But alas - I couldn't feel its shutter, couldn't tell what the shots looked like on the LCD, and to top it off, no one helped me as I stood there for 5 minutes fiddling with the thing.
And the camera's weight was deceptive too - it had 2 security clamps on it, one on the body and one on the lens, and the whole thing felt very heavy because of them.

Way to go, Sony! Way to sell it to the uninformed consumer (whom you are obviously targeting at these stores!).

  3. I have the Sony A100 for about 7 months now, i like it very much, last week i went to California for a 10 days vacation with my A100, i came home and my A100 stopped working or malfunction. so i called Sony repair center in Laredo Texas, they asked me to send it to them for repair, i shipped it out and a few days later my A100 came back in like new condition. They had replaced a few parts with no cost or free of charge to me, what a great deal or services, Sony the best there is, im very happy, will buy another Sony products soon, i got my eye on the newer A700 and the coming soon full frame 25mp DSLR.
    THNXS SONY!!.
