4Gb Lexar Compact Flash Card
PhotographyBLOG reader Mike Strock has reminded me that Lexar have started shipping a 4Gb compact flash card. Retailing at $1,499 and capable of storing around 600 RAW files froma digital SLR like the Canon EOS 10D, this card is aimed firmly at the professional photographer. Here’s an eye-opening quote from Gizmodo.com:
“Four gigabytes is enough to store as many as 45,000 JPEGs, which is probably more photographs than the average person will take in their entire lifetime.”

That's a pretty cool geek tool. I won't be getting it any time soon.

Ok so what kind of camera would store 45,000 JPGs on a 4GB card?
4GB = 4,000,000,000 B right? that divided by 45,000 gives us 88,888 B = 89KB which really does suck for a camera!
I would suggest that a camera that takes a 89KB picture probably can't take a 4GB card as it has support FAT32.
(it's 23:30 so my maths could be wrong!)

Good point Marc! I think the RAW file capacity is a much more accurate guide. And as you say, the 4Gb card can only be used by cameras that support FAT32.
