Canon Cashback can be a disappointing experience. I bought a Canon EOS 30D and subsequently claimed my cashback. Having waited some weeks I got a reply saying that they had not got the original bar code.

Before sending I was wondering - what if the bar code is lost. If the letter got lost, altogether. Should I ship the letter recommended. I did not.

Result: Canon wrote me back and told me that the bar code was missing from my letter and that they could not make the cashback.

I had taken a copy of the bar code and sent them that.

Result: None. I have not heard anything from Canon, nor have I got the promised cashback.

Have others had that experience. Perhaps this story is worth investigating?

Jesper

PS: I am very fund of my camera.

Iknow what you mean. I tried to claim back on the cashback offer and sent away all the relevant details. I was sent a letter stating that I was not eligible for the cashback as the promotion was not being run in my country.

I re-checked the terms and conditions and found that, yes, my country was included!

I am still currently chasing up my £50!

Same sort of experience. Sent everything off and heard nothing for 4 weeks.
Does anybody have an email address or contact phone number? The Canon website is useless when it comes to Contacts.

Hi there,

According to Canon's website
' If you do not receive your cash back within 30 days, please click on the 'Contact our Customer Service' link on the http://www.submissionstatus.com website where you can type in an email message for our Customer service team. You will receive a response with 48 hours. '
This is on http://canon2007promotions.onlinerebates.com/intro.aspx?country=uk&view=promos

Hope this helps

We too bought a Canon camera package deal and sent off all the relevant documentation including original barcode for the cashback. It has been 6 months and we have heard nothing. I bought it in the UK and sent it from the UK.
I have been told that company's have a cash back option so that it can be advertised at a lower price and statistics show that most people never go to the trouble of claiming it back.
Now if I were in Canada a dissatified customer could call the Better Business Bureau to report poor business or an illegal act by a business. They will investigate. Is there something like this in the UK? Not only is it false advertising on Canon's part, but it also drags Jessops into it as well.
I went into Jessops after reading that so many people had not received their cashback and suggested they were falsely advertising. I would aim some major complaint letters at both the heads of Canon along with Jessops.
It is too bad, I like Canon's products, but will not believe any of their cash back adverts anymore.

I bought a Canon 5d with 24-105mm lens in June.

Cashback form, receipt and barcode were posted to Tipperary immediately. After 6 weeks got an e-mail from Canon apologising for delay. At end of October received letter in post telling me the purchase receipt was missing, so cashback could not be paid. Luckily I had a copy and sent it off.

3 months later have heard nothing despite written complaint to Canon.

To add insult to injury, I bought a 70-200mm lens at start of December (with £100 cashback) and received a letter this week telling me the cash back would be delayed... what a surprise!

This is a total Rip Off. Canon should be ashamed

Is any chance we can take this case to court? That is false advertising, isnt it?

Small Claims Court is an option, which I think costs about £40

However the £40 court cost can only be recovered from Canon if the claim is over £200.

If my cash back cheque for the 70-200mm lens does not appear in the next couple of months my total loss will be £235 and I will be taking the Small Claims Court route.

I'm sure there are TV Consumer Rights programs which would be interested in this!

You can submit your story to BBC Watchdog. The link is:

If enough people write I expect they may follow it up. I have anyway and it's worth some publicity.

I have just submitted my complaint, which is basically the same as everyone else, to watchdog. (Very straght forward)

I do not know why I expected Canon to be better than all the other bogus offers out there. May be it is because I consider their Camera equipment to be very professional. It is a real pitty the company is not equally as professional.

Sent bardode and claim form in June and received email apologising for delay in July. Forgot about it until last month and called the helpdesk who gave me a reference number and the phone number for the Cashback Centre (0845 084 8978) but there's only ever a recorded message saying to leave your details and get a call back. No surprise - nobody has called my back yet.

I finally got my cheque for £135 last week after an 8 month wait.

Keep phoning and writing until they pay up.

Don't let them get away with it!

I sent 3 cashbacks in august for a total amount of 210 Euros. Still have nothing today. No one is answering my e-mails. Canon support gave me a phone number but no one is answering. I always have a message box...

If Canon were to just sell the cameras without a cash back I wouldn't have such a problem. The price would be what it costs. It is the promise of money back and then pretending to lose the receipts, not answering phones...a general avoidance of what must amount to a lot of money owed.

I too thought Canon was a good company delivering good products, but this clearly indicates a problem with ethics and a lack of professional standards.

What is next? Shoddy products passed off as quality. I for one will not be supporting Canon in the future. Hello rival Nikon. Too bad, I was a staunch supporter of Canon too.

We spent hours/days/weeks trying to get through on the phone to Canon. Occasionally we would and we were just told this was not the number to call or someone would call us back. We heard nothing over a period of months. We spent a long time calling Jessops who did answer the phone promising to call Canon on our behalf and nothing came of that either.

I have heard one success story where someone sent the documents registered mail and received the money, but I wouldn't even trust that any longer. The lengths that one must go to is absolutely ridiculous.
