Adobe will be raising the UK pricing of its CS4 products from 1st July 2009. Blaming sharp fluctuations between UK and European exchange rates, the price increase will equate to a price rise of up to 10%. Photoshop CS4 will increase from £485 to £534 (ex VAT). To achieve a better balance, Adobe is reducing some Euorpenan prices of CS4 by up to 13%.

Adobe UK Press Release

From 1 July 2009, Adobe will be raising the GBP pricing of its CS4 products.

As you will be aware, since the launch of CS4 in September last year, the global economy has entered a state of unprecedented turmoil and one of the side effects of this has been sharp fluctuations between GBP/EUR exchange rates. This has resulted in significant differences in price between products in the two markets.

Adobe seeks to price consistently across Europe to the extent that circumstances and market conditions make this possible. The current economic environment and currency fluctuations have made this challenging. This change to the CS4 pricing is intended to realign the UK with other European countries.

The price increase will equate to a price rise of up to 10% on the Adobe Store, for example, Photoshop CS4 will increase from £485 to £534 (ex VAT). The harmonisation process is two-way, so to achieve better balance Adobe is reducing some EUR prices of CS4 by up to 13 per cent.

This approach is in line with similar price increases, which have taken place in the past on our Adobe Stores in Sweden and Norway, which were also caused by significant changes in the exchange rate between Swedish Kroner/Norwegian Kroner and the Euro.

As you can appreciate, this has been a difficult decision for us, but in the light of the above, we need to implement these changes.

Yes, but what about the differential between Europe and the US?
As of today (June 1st) the price is $699 which equates to £424 and not the new price of £534.
The UK price is more than 25% more expensive than the US price for the same item.
Yes I realise they have to modify the language but that's a steep premium to pay, especially in these hard economic times.
And before anyone asks, yes, I have already paid for my version but I'm tempted not to do so when CS5 comes round.

Actually Kenny, unless CS4 is different to all previous versions, Adobe don't even bother to give us proper English, so there really is no justification for a price differential between the UK and the US. When you install, you get "International English" as your only choice.

I am staggered by this price hike in times when inflation is heading towards a negative number. I hope their sales figures do the same.

I don't often praise Microsoft, but their decision to selling Office 2007 Home & Student edition for around £70, to cover 3 computers, is the way forward. Price it right and the market is happy to pay.

For those still willing to pay Adobe's inflated rip-off prices, at least go through QuidCo and get the 10% back as a cashback!

Well, I live in the U.S., but here, too, Adobe has reached the status and the arrogance of the monopoly - just like Microsoft has in the past...

For example, when I tried to get out of the entire CS suite and buy only an upgrade for my Photoshop, they said I can't do that, unless I pay a full retail price for Photoshop (instead of an upgrade price). I do own a full CS3 Extended suite. Of course, I will be skipping version CS4 and wait for CS5 or maybe even CS6.
