Adobe Photoshop Voted Most Popular Photo Editing Software

Mark Goldstein | PhotographyBLOG | November 27, 2003 | 9 Comments

After 3 weeks and over 1000 votes, Adobe Photoshop was by far the most photo editing software in the PhotographyBLOG Poll with 498 votes. Adobe continued its domination of this market as Photoshop Elements came second with 175 votes. Jasc Paint Shop Pro just pipped GIMP to third place, 103 votes to 97.

The new PhotographyBLOG Poll asks the question: “Is the Canon EOS 300D the most important product of 2003?”. Do you think it’s a winner or a loser? Have you already bought one, or will you continue to use film? Is a more compact digicam a better idea in your view?

I think it's a winner, but, I'm holding out (and saving up for) the 10d.

Certainly made the other manufacturers look again at their pricing policies and I believe we'll see the likes of Nikon do the same in 2004.

That would be another interesting question - how many people are actually bypassing the 300D and buying the 10D instead, and why?

I would prefer the 10d because it's:

a) more expensive smile
b) been around longer and the bugs are (all but) ironed out.
c) more prestigious.
d) My Sigma works with the 10d, but not with the 300d. I don't know why, tried it on a few 300s and it just won't play!

So you're not that bothered about the extra features or the magnesium body then?

What extras does the 300 offer over the 10d? I must admit that I haven't really looked too deep, It's just that I've wanted the 10d since it came out and still do.

What extras? Lighter weight and $500 to buy another lens with.

I was referring to the extra features that the 10D has over the 300D grin Like the custom functions and ability to choose the focusing/metering modes.

Ah, I see - no not really! :o)

Ed - $500 is a heck of a difference, and most of what I've heard about the 300d says that it's so much cheaper than the 10d because of quality of parts used in the build (eg Sensor with holes in???) etc.

The "missing" functions of the 300D was exactly what put me off of buying it. No second-curtain flash sync, no PC socket, auto-selection of metering/focus modes, silver body... grin

What put me off the 10D (and D-SLRs in general) was the 1.5-1.6x crop factor, no live preview & histogram, potential dust issues, and the fact that I often don't want to carry lots of heavy glass around with me.

I ended up buying the Minolta A1, with it's slightly inferior image quality, as it gave me all the features I need in a much more compact package.
