Black Canon EOS 300D Reaches Europe?
My German is a little shaky to say the least, but an article over on digitalkamera.de seems to be suggesting that the black version of the Canon EOS 300D, until now only sold in Japan, is making its way to Europe. I’d be grateful if all you German speakers out there could help me out with the translation…

Yes "digitalkamera.de" writes that the black version of the Canon EOS 300D will be available in Europe as of this month but exclusively and only in a package/kit together with the 18-55 mm zoom and the GB-E1 battery grip. Suggested retail price for the package/kit to be around EUR 1200.

Here is a litteral translation of the article:
New Canon Eos 300D kits bring change into play
2004-09-03
For whomever the standard set, consisting in the Canon EOS 300D and the EF-S zoom 18-55 mm/f3.5-5.6 (as in photo), is too "banal", that person can now be happy about further sets. So we now also get Canon's beginner DSLR in black with standard zoom and battery gip, or as up to to now usual, in silver, but with two zooms.
If the Canon EOS 300D was available in Japan and other countries of this world for some time in the supposedly professional black case colour, European customers up to now had the choice only of silver... and silver. Now the EOS 300D will also be available here in black -- and namely in a set together with the battery grip BG-E1 and the 300D "standard kit zoom" EF-S 18-55 mm /f3.5-5.6 (see picture) in a special edition with USM ultra sound moter. This configuration should cost about 1,200 EUR; the introduction of this set to the market should occur in September 2004.
In a second new set the EOS 300D will also be accompanied by the EF-S 18-55 mm / f3.5-5.6 (see picture). Here, however, the lens comes in the standard edition without USM and the camera comes in the usual silver look. Against that, Canon adds also the EF 55-200mm 1:4.5-5.6 II USM to it, whose focal length connects seemlessly to that of the first lens. With both lenses together, the EOS 300D covers the 35mm equivalent of 28-320 mm. The battery grip BG-E1 belongs here also to the contents of the package. This "double-zoom" kit costs about 1,400 EUR (list price) and shoulg come to market in September.

Thanks everyone!
So Canon have at last made the right choice and released the black version of the 300D in Europe (and presumably worldwide). And they will essentially release a new lens too, with the USM version of the EF-S 18-55 mm /f3.5-5.6.

For future reference. If you use Firefox (and I really hope you do) just use the Translate extension. Its sits in your browser bar and then you just click the Translate button and its automagically translated.
