This week we’re revealing our favourite products from last year in our annual awards, looking back at the essential photography kit that helped to define 2013.

Our eight and final award is for Camera of the Year 2013, which goes to the Sony A7R.

“The Sony A7R is the most revolutionary camera of 2013, bringing 35mm full-frame, interchangeable lens shooting to the masses both in terms of cost and size. Importantly the A7R is also well-built, a pleasure to use and delivers outstanding image quality.”

Excellent choice, I personally couldn't agree more.

Wrong choice! Without the lenses it is a toy, not a finished system! Let us have lenses first, then put it to comparison.

@longzoom The award is 'camera of the year', not 'camera system of the year'. Bear in mind also that there are hundreds of different lenses that can be used with the A7R, so long as you don't mind using an adapter.

To Dave - my friend, I've never posting anything without my OWN experience. The 7r body is not working acceptably with any third party lens/adapter, especially wide one. So how can it be judged, its AF, in particular? Even with its own 55 lens the AF is a bit slow, its 7 brother is better on this respect, due to more advanced AF system. Sorry, but I still disagree. THX!

In my opinion the best camera of the year is the Olympus OEMD-1 with the Panasonic DMC G6 a close second, these are far superior cameras than the Sony full stop.
