Canon Supports National Photography Month

United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 1 June 2012. Canon, world leader in imaging today announced that it is proud to be a supporter of the inaugural UK National Photography Month.

Launched today, this nationwide initiative is a celebration of the importance of photography in our daily lives and all that photography can do.

Research shows that we’re taking more pictures than ever before but in the era of digital photography we are printing fewer pictures and are in danger of losing images that are special to us.

Throughout June the campaign, based around the theme ‘Capture and Keep’, will provide a range of workshops, tools and ideas that will help the nation create and safeguard better pictures that people are proud to share with future generations.

Canon has been particularly involved in supporting the “My School in Focus” competition which runs until November 2012. My School in Focus is an opportunity for secondary schools to get involved in National Photography Month by using photography to engage with key concepts in geography, especially during fieldwork.  The My School in Focus project is part of Colliers Green Focus, an innovative educational programme and photography competition which supports Geography at Key Stage 3 (S1-3 in Scotland).

My School in Focus encourages students to delve beneath the surface through the lens of a camera and adopt critical perspectives on a range of themes including sustainability.

Lee Bonniface, Country Director, Consumer Imaging, Canon UK and Ireland said: “Canon is a proud supporter of National Photography Month, and in particular the My School in Focus project. Helping children to engage with and enjoy photography whilst documenting their environment helps ensure that future generations have memories to share for years to come”.
