Canon Canada Announces Price Drops

Mark Goldstein | Digital SLR Cameras | September 16, 2003 | 8 Comments

Rob Galbraith’s website is reporting that Canan Canada have recently reduced the prices of several digital SLR cameras, “L” series lenses, teleconvertors and the 550ex Speedlite flash unit. The EOS 10D, EOS-1D and EOS-1Ds have all dropped in price by several hundred dollars. No similar price decreases have (yet?) been announced in the USA or the UK. Let me know if Canon have made a similar announcement in your part of the world…

Mark, the price of the Canon 10D was $2499.00 CDN at my local camera store three weeks ago. Late last week it dropped to $2199.00 CDN. Not sure about the prices for the other Canon products.

Sean - be sure to let us know what you think... should be a nice piece of kit at a revolutionary price.

Is Sean going to be the first PhotographyBLOG visitor to own the EOS 300D? Or has anyone out there already beaten him to it? grin

Well, since I prepaid the camera I technically already own it - I'm just waiting to take delivery of it now. (Nothing gets you bumped ahead of other people on the list like paying in full.)

Sean, are you getting a macro lens for the 300D? I notice from your website that macro shots seem to be one of your specialities...

The camera just arrived a couple of hours ago. I picked it up and am watching the battery charger creep past the 50% mark as I type this. I probably won't have any sample photos until Monday or Tuesday as I'm both DJing and shooting a wedding this weekend (brother-in-law).

I already have some older T-Mount macro lenses for my Mamiya/Sekor that have served me well. I've ordered the T to EF mount adapter ring for my Canon - I'm told it will arrive next week. After that you'll see more macro work. I gave up on doing macros with the DiMAGE 7 because I just couldn't get the DoF I was used to using my 135mm lens and extension tubes, plus not being able to stop down to f32 was killing me. Having to get in so close also messed up my lighting. The DiMAGE 7 is a great all-purpose prosumer camera but it's not what you want for high end macro work.

I think my current passion is night photography. A friend and I are working on a project to document as much of our city as possible after dark. smile

Night photography is great, especially with a digital camera. No reciprocity failure and you can see instantly if the exposure is right or not.

What are your first impressions then?

BTW, nice job on the redesign of your website grin
