Canon EOS 10D Preview

Mark Goldstein | Canon EOS 10D | March 6, 2003 | 2 Comments

Canon EOS 10DPhoto.net have posted a Preview of the Canon EOS 10D DSLR. “Photo.net has not yet got it’s hand on a 10D, so this is a preview, not a review, however I think it may still be useful to many readers. I think there’s very little doubt that it will be an improvement over the D60 and it seems to address some of the most often heard requests and complaints of current 60 owners”. The Reader’s Comments section at the end of the article is a particularly interesting read.

Mark you mention in your newsletter about the price of the camera being a little high for amateurs. This may be true, but I can remember a number of years ago paying over £1500 for a Nikon F5, the flagship Nikon film camera. This too was expensive for amateurs who might have run to F90 perhaps.

The point is one has to cut ones coat...... so perhaps the average amateur cannot expect to own one of these Canons or infact most other DSLR cameras All digital cameras are still more expensive than their film equivalents, and this may not alter in the near future.

I guess, from a purely financial point of view, that the average amateur has to sit down and work out how many rolls of film they actually use per week / month / year, to try to justify the initial costs. Will you save enough on film and processing costs? But that takes some of the excitement away...!

And then you can throw in the argument that digital actually makes you a better photographer. You can see what you're doing right and wrong as soon as you've taken the picture, and you're more likely to try new things out. That just muddies the waters further...
