Canon EOS-1Ds Banned From Flying

Mark Goldstein | Digital SLR Cameras | January 17, 2005 | 3 Comments

Canon EOS 1DsFollowing PhotographyBLOGs recent exclusive story about the banning of cameras on the New York transport system, Gizmodo are reporting that a photographer was prevented from boarding an El Al flight at the weekend, simply because he was carrying a Canon EOS 1Ds and an Apple IBook.

“When I asked them why it wasn’t publicly communicated, they answered that ‘they can’t have a list with all the permitted and prohibited cameras.’ Same with the laptop, according to the security dude the 1Ds and the iBook are too complex to be taken apart.”

I would like proof of this as I don't believe it. He was probably asked to take out the batteries which is normal in Israel not just before entering an El Al plane. I live in Israel and wasn't allowed to bring a G3 into the Opera House piazza unless I took out the batteries first. I suspect there is more to the story that he repeated and I am thankful every time I fly El Al that I feel safe. Perhaps security has become paranoid but better safe than sorry.

I flew with el al a year ago with my canon 1D
with the same batterry as the 1DS and nobody told me anything about it and i used the camera during the flight.

Thanks for supporting me. I really get angry at the anti-Israeli propaganda when I know it not to be true. I feel there was more to the story than the camera and laptop and resent a story like this going around the world as a fact against El Al. I wrote the same letter to the originator of this article and they chose not to print it. What does that say about them?
