The new PhotographyBLOG Poll asks the question: “So what did you get for Christmas?”. Did you get a digital or film camera? A printer or a scanner? Some software, or just a satsuma and a few nuts?!

I actually got a pile of photography books of xmas:
Faces: The Creative Process Behind Great Portraits
First Light: A Landscape Photographer's Art
Galen Rowell's Inner Game of Outdoor Photography
The Making of Landscape Photographs
...and a few other things - including a few hours in the snow to take photographs (see the gallery
These are great books and would recommend any of them.

I got Faces as well, and I got a wireless router. No other photo stuff, although the Digital Rebel was on my wish list.

I am a complete rookie here but I'll tell you what I got for Christmas.... a Fujifilm Finepix S5000 digital camera. I've already taken almost 500 pix and some are actually keepers. I can't believe that I get this many features for so little money.
I added a wide angle for $40 and I'm having a blast.
I just hope that everyone else is as happy with their gifts!

Ok I will come clean since my birthday is in February this is like my Christmas/Birthday gift!
))
The only time I really had a chance to use the printer, is when I open the boxed and tested it if it works properly. I did not want to start printing my photos until I bought a extra set of printer inks and answer the question will it work with third party papers. I had problems right out of the box. My prints from my new toy, sorry new printer, the colors were way off and skin tones had a greens tint. Found a great resource on the web http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7_print/ps7_print_mac.htm and then found out I was double profiling my printer. Follow the instructions and problem disappeared with the first print, that has been the only problem. Bought some third party paper, Ilford at the same time I bought an extra set of inks. I used Ilford's supplied icc profiles from their website and the prints were excellent. I will get around profiling the paper using my software to see if I can do better than Ilford, but right now I doubt it. Have not have a chance to print B/W photos but I did buy the Enhanced Matte ink, which I am surprised does not come with the printer. Right now comparing prints to my S9000, the inks and paper are cheaper and have the same wow factor and the S9000 printer prints faster. Have not printed much from it yet to busy with other things.

The Epson 2100/2200 has just been reduced in price at several UK shops. Jessops are selling it for £499 and Dabs for £448! That either means that there is a lot of stock around or they are trying to offload them before a new printer is launched. Maybe an A3 version of the R800 is on the way? That's just idle gossip by me, by the way
The canon S9000 can now be bought for as little as £199 at PCWorld of all places. Pretty amazing price for an A3 photo printer, even if it isn't the latest generation model.
Bill - I found that the light magenta and light cyan inks were the quickest to run out, so stock up on those.
