DxO Labs have released their sensor-based data obtained from a pre-production Canon EOS 550D digital SLR camera. The Canon EOS 550D / Digital Rebel T2i, which was only announced a week ago, got a sensor rating of 65.6 on a scale of 1 to 100, which is less than some APS-C competitors (Nikon D5000/D90/D300/D300s, Pentax K10D, Samsung GX20, Sony A380/A550/A700) have received in the past, but it has to be mentioned that all of these competitors offer lower resolution and most of them are prosumer rather than entry-level models.

"it has to be mentioned that all of these competitors offer lower resolution and most of them are prosumer rather than entry-level models" - First of all, DxO sensor mark takes resolution into account when scoring, so this actually shouldn't be noted. Also it should be noted that 550D has lower score than entry-level cameras on it's price-level or lower, like D5000, A550 or A380.

Let's face it: Canon sensor sux. The best thing it has is high resolution, but even that doesn't help it.

Here are a few observations from using Canon EOS Rebel T2i for the past 2 days:
* RAW files from this camera not supported in OS X yet
* MOV files created will test your computers speed
* MOV files in 1080p will eat up ~330MB/min and use ~15mbit/s bitrate
* Good starter lens, but I can already tell I’ll want something to supplement it
* Great fit and finish
* Very light
