Canon Releases EOS Viewer Utility

Mark Goldstein | Software | May 21, 2004 | 21 Comments

Canon have made the new EOS Viewer Utility available for download for both Windows and Macintosh platforms. It supports the following cameras:

EOS D30
EOS D60
EOS 10D
EOS Digital Rebel
EOS-1D
EOS-1D Mark II
EOS-1Ds

EOS Viewer Utility (EVU) downloads JPEG and RAW files from EOS digital SLRs, can convert RAW images and allows the modification of camera settings. EVU will NOT convert RAW images from PowerShot cameras.

EOS Capture v1.0 is automatically installed with EVU and enables control of the camera from the computer. EOS Capture v1.0 only supports EOS-1D, EOS-1Ds and EOS-1D Mark II.

Finally a raw converter that works ok from Canon. I have been waiting for something like this for way too long. I am photographing everything in raw and it was just a pain in the you-know-where working with FileViewerUtility.

Our CD with the EOS Viewer Utility has been lost. Canon no longer allows users to download this application and they want $20 for a new CD. Any one know where we can download a copy for free? We own two 1Da Mark IIs, and belong to CPS, you would think that would count for something.....

Gotta get it of my chest ! I had to work with several Canon products due to my job, Fax/Printer DV Cam and now the Canon EOS 20d. Always the same story with manuals/drivers/software. Their restrictive policy regarding downloading manuals and software cost me unnescessary time and grief. I'm working in support myself and their support has been as useful as a bucket of dry paint. I will not buy any more Canon products personally or for our company. There are enough companies, more specialized with similar or better products who don't waste my time with archaic support models.
For comparison I bought a 13 year old used Digitech Amp without manual - googeled "Model number manual download" and it was on the top list
Yamaha, 20 year old electrical piano - they at least offer a very low quality but functional scan of the original manual of 1988 on their website.

If I look 15 years in the future trying to figure out how my canon eos 20 works I don't see much hope.

Appologize again but this really peees me off.

Regards

Thomas

Thanks for that link SDJ!! I gave my old Canon to my parents because I bought a newer model, and without your help I'd never have gotten the software installed. You were a big help!

Cheers man! That looked a lil difficult but was actually too simple!

Canon lost some points by making it impossible to download a copy of EOS Utility.
