Canon today unveiled an exciting new urban art exhibition at London’s Pop Brixton as part of a Europe-wide initiative that highlights the importance of photojournalism in telling the stories that need to be told. The exhibition documents the trials and tribulations of being a Grime artist in London, a genre enjoying a breakout period following its recent success scooping a Mercury Prize in September. The story was captured on the EOS 5D Mark IV, by Reuters award-winning photojournalist, Paul Hackett. To bring the images to life, Canon has teamed up with art installation group, Remain Different. Through their work, Paul’s unique story is shared with the public by incorporating his powerful imagery with Pop Brixton’s unique architecture including shipping containers, concrete arches and staircases.. The exhibition is on display from 5th –  16th July.

Canon shines a light on the UK’s growing Grime scene through London urban art exhibition

London, United Kingdom, 5th July 2017 – Canon today has unveiled an exciting new urban art exhibition at London’s Pop Brixton as part of a European-wide initiative that highlights the importance of photojournalism in telling the stories that need to be told.

The exhibition documents the trials and tribulations of being a Grime artist in London, a genre enjoying a breakout period following its recent success scooping a prestigious Mercury Prize in September, and seeing a number one album chart in March – a first for Grime. The story was captured on Canon’s new professional DSLR camera, the EOS 5D Mark IV, by Reuters award-winning photojournalist, Paul Hackett who is best known for capturing some of the UK’s most important breaking news stories.

Paul Hackett said, "I wanted to cover the London Grime scene by building up as comprehensive a story about these artists as time would allow. Each and every day they are pushing to make things happen - by the end of the story I was in awe of their passion and work ethic."

To bring the images to life, Canon has teamed up with art installation group, Remain Different, a unique trio of friends who combine their passion for graffiti with their love of photography. Through their work, Paul’s unique story is shared with the public by incorporating his powerful imagery with Pop Brixton’s unique architecture including shipping containers, concrete arches and staircases.

From 5th –  16th July, Londoners will have the chance to learn more about Grime as it manifests into seven forms of urban art within Pop Brixton.
