'Capa in Color,' a unique exhibition of Robert Capa's most remarkable colour photographs that debuted last year at the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York, is now on view at Budapest's Capa Center. From as early as 1938 right until his death in 1954, Capa shot literally thousands of frames on colour film, principally Kodachrome, in various formats ranging from 35mm to 4x5". Capa in Color spans a variety of genres including war photography, portraiture, classic photojournalism and fashion photography. In conjunction with the exhibition, the Capa Center will also present a collection of images by Capa’s best friend and editor, John G. Morris, who also documented the Normandy landings. The exhibition hall is located at 8 Nagymező utca, Budapest, Hungary.

Press Release

Capa in Color

This exhibition presents Robert Capa's color work for the first time in Europe at the Capa Center from 9 June.

Capa regularly used color film from the 1940s until his death in 1954. Some of these photographs were published in magazines of the day, but the majority have never been printed, seen, or even studied. Over the years, this aspect of Capa’s career has virtually been forgotten. With over 100 contemporary color prints by the famous photojournalist, Capa in Color presents this work an integral part of his post-war career and fundamental in remaining relevant to magazines.

The curator of the exhibition: Cynthia Young, curator at the ICP (Robert Capa Archive)

Besides the Capa in Color exhibition, the visitors will also be presented with the images of Robert Capa’s best friend and editor, the 98-year-old John G. Morris. These photographs had been taken at the time of the Normandy landings, and after that they were hiding in a drawer of his desk for seventy years.

The curator of the exhibition: Robert Pledge, director of the photo agency Contact Press Images

The co-curator on behalf of the Capa Center is art historian Zsolt Petrányi.

Exhibitions are open to the public:
09/06/2015 – 20/09
