Center’s Choice Award Winners Announced
The annual Center Choice Awards winners have been announced. The Awards recognise outstanding photographers in three categories – Curator’s Choice, Director’s Choice and Editor’s Choice. This year, over 6,000 images were submitted to the awards from 24 different countries. The winner of the Curator’s Choice Award is Aaron Huey, that of the Editor’s Choice Award is Jamey Stillings, while the Director’s Choice Award went to a total of ten recipients. CENTER’S CHOICE AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED
The annual Center Choice Awards recognize outstanding photographers in three categories – Curator’s Choice, Director’s Choice and Editor’s Choice awards.
This competition attracts the most esteemed jurors including the Photo Editor from the New York Times Magazine and the Curator of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art. This year, over 6,000 images were submitted to the awards from 24 different countries including Denmark, Iceland, Iran, Portugal and Singapore.
The Director’s Choice jurors and Newspace Center for Photography representatives noted - “Our selection is unified by a subtle elegance, a delicate humanity, and a sense of mystery, as well as a remarkable clarity of perspective and a high level of craft. As a whole, the images chosen speak to our primary interest in showcasing challenging contemporary fine-art and fine-art documentary work.”

The winning work included provocative images dealing with significant social, cultural, environmental and emotional issues including: indigenous people in America, contemporary subcultures of children, veterans of the Cuban Revolution, dead bird species as well as many worthy fine art projects. The winning work will be exhibited at the Newspace Center for Photography, in Portland, OR, September 3-26, 2010.
