DigiCamReview.co.uk Reviews Olympus Mju Mini
DigiCamReview.co.uk have just posted their review of the diminutive and stylish 4 megapixel Olympus Mju Mini digicam (called the Stylus Verve in the USA).
“When outside image quality is good - the images have accurate and pleasing colour, and good detail although images could do with a slight sharpen, unfortunately there is no option to increase sharpness in camera. Images have low noise. There is some purple fringing, but it doesn’t appear to be a major problem. Image compression doesn’t seem to cause jpeg artifacts, and there is a good range of image sizes and compression options. The macro mode is very good. The flash didn’t cause problems when the subject was close. Auto white balance and metering seemed to be very good. The movie mode is good although VGA would be nice. When inside, the camera does an EXCELLENT job of focusing, even when used in low-light, and the small flash is surprisingly powerful.”

Thanks for interesting review. In looking for a slim, quality camera I had shortlisted the R1(+Ixus40/Optio5i/Sony W1) but am finding the more reviews I read, the more confusing it seems. For example, you generally praised the R1 for its picture/ optics quality but marked it down to 3 stars for poor buttons. Yet in your review of the Minolta X50 you conclude that at the end of the day it is picture quality that counts! I guess we readers have to realise that some of these assessments are highly subjective and different reviewers will sometimes contradict each other.
Nevertheless, I commend reviews such as yours which are highly critical of poor design. Being 50+ I need a camera with a biggish LCD otherwise I cant read the tiny and faint menus without reading glasses, and, in common with mobile phones, find it frustrating using some of the buttons designed for young people only. One day the penny will drop with these young designers- that good ergonomics will attract old farts like me who collectively have more spending power than the 20-40year group.

Nick, please note that this is DigiCamReview.co.uk's review of the camera, not mine
I am currently reviewing the Mju Mini myself - to be published early next week.
