Digital Camera Magazine Reviews Centon DC5

Mark Goldstein | Digital Compact Cameras | August 29, 2004 | 9 Comments

Centon DC5Digital Camera Magazine have reviewed the Centon DC5, a 5-megapixel digital camera that retails for just £199! Maybe this is one of the reasons why…

“The five megapixel CCD produces an image size of 2,560x1,920 pixels. That should be enough to produce some good quality A3 prints. However, the first thing you notice about the images produced is the sickly yellowish and green hue of the photos. That, of course, is a nuisance, but curable. However, what isn’t is the quality of the image processing. It really is quite unnatural. Zoom into an image, and instead of seeing well-formed pixels, there’s an odd arrangement of over processed and jagged clumps with ugly JPEG artefacts.”

Anyone know the maximum capacity of SD card that the Centon DC5 can accept, please?

Mine has software at version 0.33, and does not like a 1 gig SD card - is there a way around this, please?

With regard to the 1 gig SD card and the Centon DC5 not liking each other, a colleague used an SD Card / USB interface to re-format the card. The DC5 still would not read it, BUT it WOULD reformat it, which then cleared the problem...

Good Question! My DC5 has Version 0.33 - and as we dicussed earlier on this thread, it gives problems with 1Gb SD cards. Incidentally, deep in the Manual it says the maximum size accepted is 512Mb - it would have been nice to have been able to find this out at an earlier stage! The 1Gb card is now used in a USB adapter as a super memory stick to hold a second copy of the pictures pending burning a CD. I suspect updating the software is the answer to several problems - but if my youngest son could not find an easy way to do so, it may not be readily available...

I have a Centon DC5. Takes super pics, but the battery doesn't last long. I'm forever having to charge it up after only having taken a few pics. Any ideas how I can get round this problem?
