Digital Camera Magazine Website Hacked
The UK-based Digital Camera Magazine website has seemingly been hacked and taken offline by an angry forum member. In a mass email to all of Digital Camera Magazine’s user database, a member called “4chan” sent out the following message:
Your retarded administrators don’t understand that repairing damage is meaningless unless you first fix the problem. This forum is now 4chan’s bitch, and we shall do with it as we please. Since your administrators are completely incompetent we have decided to ban them, as well as change their passwords; we’re sure you won’t mind. We went easy on you this first time, prepare for the worst.

At the time of writing, the entire Digital Camera Magazine website (http://www.dcmag.co.uk/) was offline, displaying the message “You are not authorized to view this page”...

#1 Mr Reckitt
I received this email last night.
There is a strong possibility that the member "4chan" is affiliated with the popular website "www.4chan.org".
Just thought I'd let you know.

I highly recommend reading on wikipedia about 4chan, the image board, and specifically, the concept of the "anonymous" user. to distill it for you, "anonymous" is everyone who posts on the internet without providing their contact information. "anonymous" is seen as 1 nearly infinitely powerful user because in reality it is composed of thousands of internet users. the specific group of "anonymous" posters on the 4chan /b/ image board are something like a decentralized hacker group, they attack poorly maintained websites for no real reason. Anonymous users / forum posters are not all hackers (I'm certainly not) but many are. So, the website was not hacked by the user "4chan" the site was hacked by the decentralized user group "anonymous." There probably are posts on 4chan explaining why, I just don't have the energy to go looking for them.
