Digital Negative, an iOS app which captures uncompressed images that retain all of the information recorded by the camera sensor and saves them in DNG format, is now available in a dedicated iPad version. In addition to DNG, the Digital Negative HD app can also record high-quality JPG images or uncompressed TIFF files. Other interesting features include a real-time histogram, exposure compensation and shutter speed adjustments as well as flash, focus, and zoom controls. Digital Negative HD is available on iTunes for $2.99.

Digital Negative, the app specifically designed to capture the highest quality images from the iPhone or iPod Touch camera, is now available for iPad. Digital Negative HD is the first app that captures uncompressed images that retain all of the information recorded by the camera sensor. These digital negative (DNG) pictures are much like the negatives from a film camera, and the serious photographer can use standard raw editing programs or Digital Negative HD’s built‐in raw editing tools to develop the photograph and display all of the features in the image.

This feature was previously only available on high‐end cameras like digital SLRs, but now your iPad can do it too. Digital Negative HD has the tools needed to preview images quickly, view all of the EXIF information, and develop images on the go.

There are several other revolutionary features in this app. First, Digital Negative HD shows a real‐time histogram of the camera's display, to avoid under‐ or over‐exposing images before taking the photograph. Digital Negative HD contains exposure locking, and flash, focus, and zoom controls to help set up the image with greater precision.

Still want to take pictures in JPG or TIFF format? No problem. Digital Negative HD also records high-quality JPG images or uncompressed TIFF files. Want to share photos? Digital Negative HD allows uploading of uncompressed pictures to Dropbox and uploading of JPG versions to Facebook.

Only idiots shoot with an iPad or people who don't care about looking complete dicks. What about an iPhone version? They will sell many, many more.

Whoops, I have been a numpty, they do an iPhone version. Not very good ratings though. Apparently, this could be called a faux digital negative app as the iPhone doesn't output this file type from the OS. Perhaps it is best avoided until a genuine digital negative IS available.
