Duracell Press Release

Duracell Launches New Rechargeable Cells; Introduces Powerful, Higher Capacity 2650 mAh NiMH Rechargeable Cells

BETHEL, Conn.—May 24, 2006—Duracell today announced the latest additions to its rechargeable battery line designed to meet the growing demands of high-drain devices like digital cameras. The new nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, which include 2650 mAh AA and 1000 mAh AAA cells, are arriving on mass market, drug, grocery and electronic store shelves in May 2006. The new batteries represent some of the highest capacity AA and AAA rechargeable cells available today. Ideal for consumers who frequently use high-drain devices like digital cameras, the 2650 mAh AA and 1000 mAh AAA cells offer both strong performance and value. The introduction builds upon Duracell’s extensive line of rechargeable battery solutions, including the Duracell 15-minute charger, which was introduced earlier this year.

“With digital camera use skyrocketing, high-performing, rechargeable power options are in high demand,” said Dan McCarthy, director of global marketing for Duracell Specialty Products. “Our latest introductions underscore our dedication to the rechargeable category and reinforce our commitment to providing dependable power for every type of digital camera user, whether an avid snap-shooter or an occasional user.”

Duracell’s rechargeable products offer strong value for frequent digital camera users, such as those who use their cameras at least once a week. According to research conducted by Duracell, this group represents just over one-quarter of digital camera users.

Duracell’s rechargeable products are part of a portfolio of power solutions designed to accommodate the habits of every digital camera user. In addition to rechargeable batteries and chargers, the portfolio includes Duracell PowerPix(TM), a new disposable battery designed for moderate users who take from 21 to 80 pictures per month, and Duracell Ultra Digital, a premium alkaline battery for occasional digital camera users who take fewer than 20 pictures per month.

Duracell also introduced an educational digital imaging guide to help digital camera owners find the best battery power solution based on their typical photography habits. A recent survey, conducted by Opinion Research Corporation on behalf of Duracell, found that one-third of digital camera owners need help determining which battery to choose for their digital cameras. Duracell’s new digital imaging guide will appear on product packaging and at select retail outlets.

A 4-pack of Duracell 2650 mAh AA NiMH batteries has a suggested retail price range of $9.99 to $12.99. The Duracell 15-minute charger, which comes with four 2400 mAh AA NiMH batteries, has a suggested retail price range of $27.99 to $39.99.

Do you realize that your Duracell rechargeable 2650 AA/HR6/DC1500 NiMH/1.2volt batteries have a diameter a few thousands of an inch more than other similar rechargeable batteries.
Yours - .555 inch
Radio Shack - .555 inch.
This was enough to prevent about 6 of your batteries to jam the switch in my wife's Remington Razor so it would not start.
"Good thing I'm a so-so machinist with a few tools. It took me a while to figure this one out.

I think there are a couple of significant typos in your comment, but I
was still able to get your point. It seems like the problem might have
been caused by overcharging the batteries, making them too 'FULL'.

Sorry, Paul, I couldn't resist. Glad you resolved the problem. smile

Paul, please don't let our imaginations run too wild, I'm very anxious to hear the full story, especially the part on how your wife managed to get them in... a hammer?
And being a machinist, exactly, what did it take to extract them, a Bridgeport Head?

Amamzing.

Paul, do you REALLY think P&G (or anyone else (!)) really gives a flyin' shit about your wife's razor/batteries? The Duracell 2650's don't fit--what's next? Gonna sue P&G for distress and mental anguish because the batteries won't fit?

And I'm sure genius Paul will have to point out the "Amamzing" typo so he can make a very weak attempt at saving face wink

OUCH!...Was it really a razor, maybe another battery operated device!
Paul, we need your input to keep the humor going, all this photography talk gets real old sometimes!
Nik, IMHO , you are a bit too hard on Paul, I think his intentions were good ones, funny too!

Actually, I had a similar experience (but just the opposite) with a Shure
wireless mic. I had been using numerous name brand 9V alkalines with
no problem whatsoever. Then I put in a 'Radio Shack' 9V NiMH, and the
battery cap split open the first time I put it back on because the battery
was too big.

Or maybe it cracked due to the vocal pressure of the Piercing Pogoda. smile

Nick maybe you're right on *both* counts.
I was thinking the same thing--a razor? Nah, it was somthing else wink

Thanks Nik! You're OK!
Little known fact concerning Gary's comment, the old Memorex ad about a vocal note breaking a glass actually happened at a Blue's Bar in north LA a while back, it was demonstrated by our resident electronic guru, Gary "The Warbler" Pogoda.
Not only did he break 13 shot glasses, the house wall mirror, but the eye glasses of the guest singer ( the guest singer had suffered a permanent eye injury, previously, from some kind of excessive flash emitted from a defective Canon pocket camera that an inconsiderate patron had used... awful, just awful!)
Altho the "Piercing" tone was impressive, we all suspected that it was accomplished by using some kind of experimental Radio Shack battery that Mr. Pogoda was testing.... suspicions confirmed!!
Tsk, tsk!
