ePhotoZine Reviews the Pod Camera Platform

Mark Goldstein | Film | November 17, 2003 | 1 Comments

ePhotoZine have posted a review of one of the more unusual photography accessories that will find in your local camera shop. The Pod is basically a beanbag with a tripod mount fixed to it, which provides support for your camera and allows you to use slower shutter speeds than usual. Whether it’s worth the £14.99 asking price depends largely on the kind of photography that you do; nature and landscape photographers will probably be most interested in the Pod.

“I shot for a full day with the Pod with long and short lenses, both of which were attached to the lens mount. When shooting from a wooden hide and holding on to the camera with my hand over the barrel of the 100-400mm lens, the Pod was very good indeed and I got sharp shots down to 1/20 second.”

I have got one of these, and I think it is very useful and worth having around. Mostly I use it with my compact camera when I don't have a tripod with me.

Attach the camera to the beanbag, put in on a wall or something, and then jiggle until the viewfinder is level. And then either take a cheesy holiday photo on self timer, or take a slow shutter exposure when the light is low.

Very handy when I go out for the day, but don't want to carry a tripod and SLR camera gear. Just a digital compact or my Ricoh GR1.
