Epson has announced the Expression Photo XP-850 and XP-750 Wi-Fi enabled A4 photo printers. Both new models use Epson’s new six-colour Claria Photo HD Ink Set (black, cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta), which is claimed to deliver smooth tonal gradations, deep blacks and rich, vibrant colours. The Expression Photo XP-850 and XP-750 also feature a motorised control panel and output tray, which open automatically before printing so all users have to do is collect their printouts. The key differences between the two models include the scanner resolution (4,800dpi for the XP-850 and 2,400dpi for the XP-750) and duplex ADF for double-sided scanning, copying and faxing, which is only offered by the XP-850. The Expression Photo XP-850 and XP-750 are available from November, priced at £249.99 and £229.99 respectively.

Dedicated photo printing at home

Epson launches ultra-compact inkjets for the photo enthusiast with new six-colour photo ink set

Specially designed to deliver superior photo printing and packed full of features, Epson launches the Expression Photo XP-850 and XP-750 ; ideal for photo enthusiasts who want a top-of-the-range A4 printer to showcase their photography skills. The range has the following features:

•        New six-colour Claria Photo HD Ink for superior-quality, long-lasting photographs
•        Compact size - 40% smaller than previous models
•        Motorised control panel and output tray
•        8.8cm touch screen with user-friendly interactive menu
•        Improved Epson Connect service with new Remote Print Driver and Scan-to-Cloud
•        Automatic Wi-Fi setup and Wi-Fi Direct connectivity
•        Rear speciality media feed for card and heavyweight photo paper
•        CD and DVD printing

These printers use Epson’s new Claria Photo HD Ink, ideal for photo enthusiasts who are looking to produce superior-quality photographs that last up to 300 years when stored in a photo album . This six-colour ink set (black, cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan and light magenta) delivers smooth tonal gradations, deep blacks and rich, vibrant colours.

These models also feature a motorised control panel and output tray, which open automatically before printing so all users have to do is collect their printouts.

Both Expression Photo printers offer remote printing with Epson Connect3 (Epson iPrint, Epson Email Print, Remote Print Driver and Scan-to-Cloud). This service allows users to print wirelessly from smartphones and tablet PCs using Epson iPrint, and print from anywhere in the world, by emailing directly to the printer’s unique email address. The Remote Print Driver offers users greater flexibility to customise print jobs via their computer’s printer driver before sending them to print from anywhere. Scan-to-Cloud enables users to store and share scanned documents directly in Cloud services, and send to any email address or other Epson Connect printer. Printers are also Google Cloud Print and Apple AirPrint ready.

With automatic Wi-Fi set-up4, users don’t need to know their network settings or connect with a USB cable during initial set up, as the printer automatically finds the relevant connection settings to configure itself. In addition, Wi-Fi Direct allows the printer to connect directly to other Wi-Fi devices without the need for a wireless access point, such as a router.

Users can also be more creative with their photos thanks to the rear speciality media feed, which allows printing onto card and heavyweight photo paper, and dual front-loading paper trays, which enable users to switch between photo-sized and A4-sized printing effortlessly. These printers also allow users to print directly onto suitable CDs and DVDs to personalise family films and digital photo albums. Both printers support duplex printing, while the XP-850 also features a duplex ADF for double-sided scanning, copying and faxing.

Neil Wilson, business manager, Epson UK, says: “These printers are packed full of features and have been developed to offer photo enthusiasts superior photo printing for the home. Using the new Claria Photo HD Ink ensures perfect skin tones and smooth tonal gradations with every print.”

The Expression Photo XP-850 and XP-750 are available from November, priced at £249.99 and £229.99 respectively.

Can anybody tell me the physical overall dimensions of this new machine? All I seem to be able to find is the claim that it's 40% smaller than previous similar models.

My Artisan 700 isn't printing properly anymore.

Came close to buying an 837 but then saw this new printer and decided I might as well get the latest and greatest. Problem is I can't find it anywhere except on Epson Canada site.

@Sam : epson US has in stock. I used a discount coupon to take 10% off. Free shipping. I paid $270
So far I'm impressed with this printer. Has a lot of features, colors are beautiful. I'm using highest quality photo paper.
I want to wait until I finish the cartridges before I will write a review on amazon.

I received my XP-850 printer as a warranty replacement for a faulty PX830FWD model, so far I am quite impressed with it, I think it is better than my old PX830FWD, bit annoying about the compatable inks not being available yet, I do a lot of printing and find after about 6/7 months I have to return the printer to Epson with a major fault that the repair center cannot sort out and get a replacement from them this has happened with the last 3 printers purchased, saying that the results that these printers give is fantastic the prints could not be better

I tried everywhere including Amazon USA, and Hong Kong and other Ebay sites and Amazon, also nothing showing up on the internet, they are not available yet, from what I understand they are a newly designed cartridge like the onse used by other printer makers such as Canon and will take a while before compatable ones come on the market

I can buy Epson ink here at about £46 a set, I always buy compatable inks affordable at a fraction of Epsons price , I use about three sets a month, I am looking for compatable inks these are normily just a fraction of the priceabout £5 a set but not on the market yet.

Now I understand. You're looking for refilled cartridges. Well, for now you have to stick with original ones. Myself, I spent a fortune for camera and lenses to reproduce best colors and dynamic range, spent valuable time editing those photos, also got a great printer and highest quality printing paper. I would not ruin my work by buying refilled cartridges.

Nice to have a fortune to spend, I am not a professional, just retired guy having to watch my pennies although I own a good Nikon Digital SLR, compatable inks give exellent results it would take an expert to notice the difference in the prints,

For using about 3 sets of cartridges per month, you must print a lot or photos. Remanufactured ink might dry faster on print head and damage your printer in long term.
I used to buy remanufactured ink cartriges for a junk printer used to print online coupons and other web pages.
A performance car requires good quality gas. That's just me, you don't have to agree.
I'm not a pro either, nor rich.
