I don't think so. Yesterday their website said available in 1-2 days, now it says ordered upon request. I expect in the next week or so it should be widely available.

Having just bought a second hand Bronica ETRSi to play with, I was thinking of getting this scanner as it does a reasonable job of MF film scanning. It's predecessor the 3200 was well regarded, so hopefully the 4870 is an improvement.

I didn't have that much experience with scanners. Is 4800x9600 a real optical resolution or simply an advertising trick? If it's real, does it mean that it's better than most (expensive) film scanners? Where's a catch?

As a general rule, flat bed film scanners don't perform as well as the equivalent dedicated film scanner. Lots of physics and clever stuff about optics and lighting determines that. However the latest flatbeds have been well designed for film scanning and can do a respectable job for the money.

read Vincent Oliver's detailed review on photo-i of the Epson 3200 to get an idea of what to expect from the 4870.

Assuming Epson have improved on the 3200 then the 4870 should be fantastic value for money for Medium Format scanning. A dedicated MF film scanner is usually over £2000. Ouch!

As Sean has said, even the most expensive flatbed scanners aren't a match for a dedicated film scanner for 35mm film, but when it comes to medium format they are probably the only affordable way for amateurs to scan the larger neg size.

Yes, but does it mean that 4800x9600 isn't real optical resolution? As far as i know there's no film scanner with such resolution under $2000.
