Facebook has agreed to acquire Instagram for nearly one billion US dollars in cash and stock. On his own Timeline, Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg wrote that “providing the best photo sharing experience is one reason why so many people love Facebook and we knew it would be worth bringing these two companies together”. Instagram has attracted approximately 27 million users in just 1.5 years, on the iOS platform alone, before launching an Android app a week ago.

After Instagram’s $1 billion acquisition by Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg wrote: “Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team…We believe [Facebook and Instagram] are different experiences that complement each other.” And they do; Facebook is all about sharing and commonality, it’s about words. Instagram is about aesthetics, it’s visual, it’s about pictures. Instagram will bring great pictures to Facebook and Facebook will tag them and share them with the world. It’s a marriage made in social media heaven.
