Fantasea WP-DC34 Housing for the Canon G11
Fantasea Line has announced the WP-DC34 underater housing and other accessories for the Canon Powershot G11 digital compact camera. The WP-DC34 housing weighs in at 13.1 ounces and measures 5.5x3.6x3.4 inches. Other Fantasea Line accessories include G series BigEye wide-angle conversion lenses, the SharpEye M67 close-up lens, the RedEye filter G10/G11, the Remora and Nano Single Pro and Nano Double Pro lighting sets. The WP-DC34 underwater housing for the Canon G11 is available for preorder on Amazon for $199.99.
Correction - 7 September 2009
The WP-DC34 housing is actually a Canon product. The Fantasea announcement concerns the availability of the above listed accessories (G series BigEye wide-angle conversion lenses, the SharpEye M67 close-up lens, the RedEye filter G10/G11, the Remora and Nano Single Pro and Nano Double Pro lighting sets) for the Canon G11 and the WP-DC34 housing. We apologise for the confusion.

If you look carefully, you will see that the focus ligth once again have been consealed behind the flash diffuser screen on the UW-house. Damned. It's very important to keep the focus light able to beam throu the underwater housing. Ligth and focusing aide matters a lot when you are at the bottom of the sea and the ligth is very low. It makes the difference between a focused picture and a blurred one. So please! A new design for the UW house is mostly wanted.

Really good camera, Canon G11 with a WP-DC34 Housing, but the main problem in it is that the housing is not really compatible with external wide-angle or macro lenses. Only Fantasea produces right now lenses for this housing. People who own different lenses would be really gratefull if there would be a adapter or thread port for their lenses. These lenses are compatible with housings produced for IXUS series, results can be seen at http://www.waterworldshots.com

I have not seen the G11 but for the G10 my initial impressions were the same. I later found out that the upper left button acts like an activator button and if you press it, you can control all the manual settings like aperture and shutter speed using other buttons instead of the dial. Its a bit clumsy to do at first but one would get the hang of it.

i have a G11 and i am thinking of buying the underwater casing but i notice that there is a different in the 2 casing. one with a square shape and the other is oval.they are both under the mod. WP-DC34. which one is more appropriate for the G11.
the other thing, is there a way to solve the problem of the diffuser that is blocking the focus light
of course you can buy a different type of casing to go with the G11 but thats not what i want. i prefer to have the orginal kind.
any comment would be welcome

Very happy to have bought the G11 & the WP-DC34...!

They fit perfectly together...!
Don't forget to buy 14GB-SDHC-cards (or larger)...!
Initially I had the idea to buy an UW-housing for my CANON EOS 30D, but it would have been very much more pricy & I did not want to risk to loose my 30D incase of a leak...
(cheaper to buy a G11 & the appropriate UW-housing...
1 advice: buy an external flash (I use SB-105) & pilot-light (AQUAMIR) > you can definitely use them down there.
(My other light-source is a GREENFORCE FLEX2)
>>> 1 happy UW-photographer...

Canon G-11 Camera is great but not the Canon made underwater housing for this. I bought a casing at Delon Camera shop at Ocean Terminal at TST Kowloon and the casing is faulty. Flooded my camera and had to pay for the repair. And the pressure test by Canon itself for the underwater housing failed. They don't want to replace the faulty housing since they claim it is an accessory.. Ikelite housing is more dependable.
People are having same problem... see this site: http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/canon-corner/315202-canon-housing-leaks-easy-diy-fix.html

I have the G11 and want to get the underwater housing. I have been checking reviews and no one has mentioned the fold out screen. None of the photos show the rear of the camera. How is this handled in the uw case?

fold out screen folds flat when in the Canon housing - you could do it the other way but you need the screen to see any changes in the settings etc

Took our G11 and the with a WP-DC34 on its second trip. It developed a small leak at the display button. Couldn't use it for the remainder of the dive trip.
When be bought the camera (like, the day it came out) the WP-DC34 was the only housing for the camera, and we were leaving on a trip the following week.
We will now be contacting Canon and Amazon, and will be having to replace the housing.
Additionally, we have a Sealife flash. It works well with the camera, but the mounting source doesn't fit correctly--had to make some modifications (rubber padding) that sealife recommended to me.

I recently purchased the Canon G11 and the underwater housing for my trip to Fiji. The bottom half of the flash is obscured by the housing causing all of my underwater photos to come out half colorful and half gray. Very disappointing.
