The Focus on Imaging 2012 photography show, being held this week in Birmingham, UK, has proven to be very popular indeed. Despite the dire state of the economy, photographers have been attracted by major new products from Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, Olympus, Sigma and Tamron, not to mention the likes of LowePro, Wacom, Samyang, Gitzo and Tokina. Retailers like CameraWorld and Jacobs were also swamped with people looking for a show bargain - the Panasonic GF3 compact system camera complete with a 14-42mm kit lens for just £199 caught our eye. The last day of Focus 2012 is tomorrow, so you still have the chance to pay a visit.

Failing that, if you can’t make the show in person, then simply sit back and enjoy our extensive gallery of photos of some of the key products of Focus on Imaging 2012.

Sadly this year saw a tired and boring show, very little in the way of new attractions all laid out in the same way as previous years, a real letdown at a time when shows like this should inspire rather than deflate the customers. Canon with its new 5d Mk3 was to be the highlight until you started to ask the questions, admitting that they had problems with the slow focusing on HD it has not been addressed in the new version, and for enviromental proofing they told me it was the same as the 7D a long way off of the 1D / S all this for a pound under £3000, not my cup of tea stick with the Mk1 & 2s I already have, shame missed a point there Canon.
The show itself had many of the contributors from previous years missing, Corel a major player, not there, some of the smaller companies also not showing, a reflection on the times maybe but also the show organisers have a lot to answer for I feel. 2013 I dont think I will be getting on the regular 10:15 from Euston to race up and visit unless some dramatic changes to the show and exhibitors are made, looks as though Focus on Imaging has gone a bit Blurry.
