Fruit and Nuts Pipped at the Post
After 4 weeks and over 300 votes, Digital Camera narrowly pipped “Some fruit and nuts!” as the number one present for Christmas 2003 ![]()
The new PhotographyBLOG Poll asks the topical question: “Which camera are you most excited about - Nikon D70, Nikon Coolpix 8700 or the Canon EOS 1D MKII?”.

that's an easy vote...

I will probably never own the 1D mkII unless they dramaticaly reduce the price (about 50% would help a lot)
My best bet is a used 1D although it still sells for a substantial amount even on the second hand market.
damn, how I hate university sometimes!

Stick with it and you will be able to afford a 1D MKII one day (or whatever it distant relative is). Then agai, I work full time and I can't afford one either (even at half the price). I'll be sticking with my 10D for the time being...

I voted for the Nikon D70. Why? Because I think Nikon is going to compete with Canon's 10D at a 300D price. Very smart move by Nikon. This means for me, a 10D owner, when Canon come out the a camera to replace the 10D, it will have something more than extra megapixels and be cheaper than a 10D. A win for Nikon and Canon owners!

To the people that voted "Some fruit and nuts", its the thought that counts and not the gift.

well I wouldn't be able to buy one either but it would help a lot because then I might be able to find a decent long term loan (i.e. parents who have a tendency to forget over time
making it much more likely to actually own one.

Well, if Nikon is going to compete with the 10D, they had better upgrade the D100 as well, as the D70 is effectively going to kill it. I also hope they upgrade the noise levels, as my father's D100 is fully one f-stop below the 10D/DRebel in subjective quality.
I voted for the Canon 1DMkII as that is the only camera I would consider buying right now (I already have a 10D), if it were not so huge and heavy. That doesn't mean I am really excited about it, and I am more likely to spend my photography dollars getting a used Fuji 690 rangefinder, a Canon 24mm TS-E tilt-shift lens, a couple of Leica primes or a used Hasselblad SWC long before I drop four grand on a DSLR. And a shiny new Mac G5 also beckons as well...
