Fujifilm FinePix JX550 and JX500: Style with substance
Fujifilm’s affordable FinePix JX-series compacts are designed specifically for ease of use and great picture quality, without compromising on style. This year’s new range of FinePix JX models both offer a 5x optical zoom with both 16 and 14 megapixel resolution variants. All models will produce stunning pictures, making them perfect every day cameras that the whole family can use.
Capture the whole picture
The JX-series ranges of cameras all feature a 2.7-inch LCD screen that has been redesigned to make it easier to see in direct sunlight when users are composing pictures or reviewing their shots.
Unlock creative possibilities
In addition to top-quality still images, the FinePix JX cameras can capture video in 720p HD at 30fps. A new dedicated movie recording button on the rear of the camera makes it even quicker to start capturing video, and with the in-camera editing functionality offered, users can enjoy trimming, cropping and re-cutting their short movies in-camera without having to upload files to a computer. Once users are happy with their creations, they can watch the movies back on any HD ready TV – and also see their still pictures in Full 1080p HD detail. Beyond standard still sizes, users can also choose to shoot panoramic images that are created using Fujifilm’s auto-stitching technology – Motion Panorama mode. Capturing a breath-taking panorama couldn’t be easier; simply depress the shutter button, sweep the camera across a scene and the cameras will automatically stitch the images together to create a seamless result.
Automatic Scene Recognition
If users need even more of a helping hand, the J Series cameras also feature SR Auto mode, which detects the type of scene being photographed and automatically adjusts the camera’s settings to suit. Six different scenes can be detected on this mode that includes: Portrait, Backlit Portrait Macro, Landscape and Night.
Looks to match the performance
All the FinePix JX-series offer luxurious metal front cover with rounded, soft edges that make the cameras pleasing to hold. Plus, ergonomically placed buttons ensure that users will quickly feel at home operating these cameras. In addition they are also ultra slim and more than capable of slipping into a pocket or handbag for go-anywhere portability.

Recently got one of these and the picture and movie quality are great.
Had no real problem using basic functions on day one.
However the icons on the function buttons on back are a bit small and close to each other so there is fear about hitting the wrong function which may be true in a few cameras of this sort.
Also the users manual is barely bigger than camera and a magnifying glass is recommended if you can manage to find the specific instructions you want.
Also I uploaded some pics on to computer and found out its not easy to load them on all kinds of mail servers ( yahoo wouldnt load at all) due to the amount of data.
Small Vids had same problem .
These are probably not problems exclusive to this camera and use of flash drives besides direct upload from camera to computer are going to be needed for transfer or sharing files and operating your results to create pictures dvds.
Supposedly you can plug camera direct into HD TV for playback I just havent gotten that far after a few days use.
Still need to learn how to edit my work and would love to get some tips :)

Thats a weird situation you have there and i would think you need to contact the manufacturer and their service agents pronto , and I havent had that issue in a year.
I'd like to amend a couple of statements on my earlier comments from 2012.
You can easily load the pictures from the mememory cards to your laptops at least ,,duh :).
And yahoo can load some pics or some vids it just depends on the size.
I used it yesterday kept it in pretty pristine shape.
Wish the zoom function worked while recording .
Havent figuered the Camera out tottally yet but it still takes great pictures even if the shutter speed seems faster or slower sometimes and the picture i thought i had with moving subjects is not what I usually wind up with :).
Thats the way it goes , good basic Camera and HD recording and the cost has gone down at least 20% in a year.
Good deal !!
