Galerie Huit Open Salon 2011 is an open international photography competition designed to promote new work by talented artists, enabling them to exhibit during the ‘Les Rencontres d’Arles’ festival. The closing date for submissions is 1 May 2011; the festival will take place from 4th July until 18th September. The theme of the competition and exhibition is Transience. Note that entry fees apply, as outlined in the announcement below.

An Exceptional Opportunity for Photographers to Exhibit During Les Rencontres d’Arles 2011 Photography Festival in France

Galerie Huit Open Salon 2011 is an open International Photographic Competition designed to showcase cutting-edge contemporary and emerging photography from around the world and promote new work by talented artists, enabling them to exhibit and receive exposure during the renowned international Photography Festival ‘Les Rencontres d’Arles’ in Southern France. Festival attracts prominent collectors, curators, gallerists, publishers and photography lovers. In 2010 attendees were estimated at 73,000, including over 5,000 journalists.

Artist Residency with Galerie Huit Arles for the overall Winner

Other Prizes
o Winning images will be exhibited in Galerie Huit Arles during and alongside the renowned international photography festival Les Rencontres d’Arles in France from 4th July until 18th September 2011
o Winning images will also be exhibited in Galerie Huit Penang, Malaysia in January 2012
o The winning selection of images selected for the exhibition will be printed by Galerie Huit Open Salon
o The exhibited images will be offered for sale.
o The photographers will receive 50% of the sale proceeds if their image/s is sold.
o Selected images will be featured in an online gallery on our website http://www.photographyopensalon.com

Exhibition Theme
Transience.We are inviting images that evoke and relay the concept of transience - references that relate to change or the process of changing. How do we relate to a permanent state of transition, impermanence and the passing of time?

Judges
The competition theme for 2011 is ‘Transience’ and applicants – who can be at any stage of their career - will be judged on creativity, conceptual strength and technical skill.  Outstanding professionals from the world of photography and curating compose the multi-national jury for Galerie Huit Open Salon 2011:

Format and Size
Each entry should be submitted online via our website and should be a JPG image not more than 1024 pixels on the longest side and not more than 1MB in size.
