The majority of GE’s new cameras, announced earlier this year, are now available in the UK. These include the GE X5 superzoom camera with 15x optical zoom (pictured), the GE E1486TW touch-screen model featuring an 8x optical zoom in a slim body, the 14.2-megapixel GE J1455 that sports a 5x zoom lens with image stabilisation, and the smart-looking GE A1255 and A1455, which come with 5x optical zoom and a 12 and a 14 megapixel imager, respectively. The 12.2-megapixel GE G5WP waterproof compact and the 14-megapixel GE E1486W - which is essentially an E1486TW without the touch-screen interface - are slated for July.

The X5 super zoom looks like a Fujifilm S1600.

Striking similarities between this & other brand/s. I cannot see GE investing tens of thousands of dollars on developement of camera design. Who is really contributing to the new range of GE cameras, who's lenses, who's firmware, etc? I am no camera snob but I cannot envisage walking around with a camera with a GE badge hung round my neck. Sorry!

If it's Fuji then it may be worth the look. I will get one and test it out.

Mike - your statement "I am no camera snob but I cannot envisage walking around with a camera with a GE badge hung round my neck. Sorry!" clearly reveals that you ARE a camera snob! Surely its the results you get from the camera thats important and not the label - or am I sadly mistaken? If this is a Fuji remake, then at the price they have it, it is a very tempting prospect.

After a week of ownership - Competent camera and not hard on batteries. Lens is adequately sharp compared to a 3 year old Sony prosumer model. Automatic scene mode works well inside a building lit with a mix of fluorescent and incandescence lighting, night shots and in daylight. Very good natural colors in nearly all situations. Good anti shake protection. Recommended and a bargain at U$ 133. Looks like a Fuji Finepix S1500FD with an unknown lens.
