Getty Images have opened the next three $20,000 Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography, which will be announced in September. Each year, Getty Images awards five grants totaling $100,000 to fund, inspire and support the best global talent in photojournalism. Two grants are awarded in February and three in September. You have until May 15, 2007 to submit a written proposal of 550 words or less and supporting portfolio of between 30 and 60 images. For the February 2007 grant, the program attracted a record 153 entries from photojournalists in 26 countries. Winners were Ziyah Gafic, who proposes to use his grant to complete his series of photo essays titled ‘Troubled Islam - Short Stories From Troubled Societies’ and Christopher Anderson who plans to focus on a project titled ‘The Bolivarian Revolution - Venezuela and Bolivia at a Crossroads.’

APPLICATIONS DUE MAY 15 2007 FOR NEXT GETTY IMAGES GRANTS FOR EDITORIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

SEATTLE – 3 May 2007 – Photographers have until May 15, 2007 to postmark applications for the next three $20,000 Getty Images Grants for Editorial Photography to be announced in September, 2007.

Grant application and submission guidelines, plus additional information on previous winners, their projects and the judges can be found at http://www.gettyimages.com/editorial-grants. 

The following judges will review all applications and select the three grant recipients.

·      Elisabeth Biondi, Visuals Editor, The New Yorker
·      Paolo Pellegrin, Photographer, Magnum
·      W. M. Hunt, Co-founder, Hasted Hunt Gallery

Applications must include a written proposal of 550 words or less to explain the scope, significance and journalistic merit of their chosen project, along with a supporting portfolio of between 30 and 60 images of the applicant’s previous work.

Each year, Getty Images awards five grants totaling $100,000 to fund, inspire and support the best global talent in photojournalism. Two grants are awarded in February and three in September.

Each grant consists of $20,000 as well as project execution support from Getty Images photo editors. While retaining copyright of their imagery, grant recipients also have the option to sign a one year exclusive rights deal with Getty Images, enabling their grants project imagery to be marketed and available for license to customers worldwide, at http://www.gettyimages.com
