Hiking is the photographer’s passion

Spring and Autumn are the two most popular seasons for hiking. No wonder, as this is when nature is at its most beautiful with glowing golden fall colours or tender spring buds. So naturally, photographers are surrounded by incredible photo opportunities. Hama’s Alpenpod tripod is specially designed for photographers who love to hike.

This product functions as both a walking stick with a monopod by combining a 2D tripod head that can be tilted forward up to 90° and an ergonomic handle with a hand loop on one end with a built-in spike with an attachable rubber cap on the other end. The three part tripod can be extended to any length from 67 cm to 141 cm and weighs only 360 g. When it is not in use, the tripod socket can be protected by a detachable cover with an integrated compass that always points in the right direction. The anti-shock spring cushioning helps to take some of the pressure off the photographer’s legs during long hikes and the snow disc (included) prevents the tripod from sinking in the snow during creative winter hikes.

I purchased this item a couple of months ago and really wished I had purchased it many months sooner. It has been a great help to the cricket photography I have been doing over the summer as it has taken the strain off my back and arms, and allowing the use of manual focus on high speed sports photography to gain some excellent shots. Also the weight of this has not added vastly to the ever growing kit as it is nice and light to carry, but strong enough to support a Nikon D200 with f/2.8 lens.
I did pay less than £30 for this item and has been well worth it. There are more 'flash' models avaliable on the market with quick releases, but this does the job perfectly and the 3 adjustable sections adequet to gain the height needed for me - all of 5ft 5"! There are monopod heads avaliable too for this to gain the movements of so required - I am currently looking into these for future work.

Overall, a fantastic piece of kit when you cannot carry a full tripod too.
