Let's hope the image quality is a step up from the decidedly mediocre R507 (R607 in the US). Despite some good reviews, the latter turned out to be just about the least satisfing camera I've ever used when is comes to focussing reliability, colour balance, and chromatic aberration.

Now I am worried. I had only checked reviews for the more recent R717, which were all pretty good. Hopefully, with the R817, HP has fixed the mediocrity problems you encountered in the earlier R507/607. Even so, with the R817's smaller image sensor and greater optical zoom range lens, there is still plenty of room for new problems to develop. I know of at least two websites planning R817 reviews, in English
, so the suspense should be ended shortly.
