dear editor,

I got a hp photosmart R742 digital camera as a gift. but, I did not get the battery charger. Now the included Lithium Ion battery is chargeless. So, I am unable to use my lovely camera. Could you please suggest me, where can I buy charger?

my girlfriend also got the hp photosmart r742 and did not get a battery charger either. i found that you can buy a recharge kit from hp.com that has the charger + the battery + a camera case... it is $50 though. any suggestions as to where i can buy just the charger?

DO NOT BUY the Quick Recharge Kit - HP Photosmart Q6270 ! I ordered one from Amazon only to learn too late, from HP over the phone, that it is not compatible with the r742 camera, despite the fact that it is shown as an accessory within the r742 brochure. HP online allows you to order the recharge cradle, item L2508-80001, but not the req'd AC cord, item L2508-80002. Go figure ! What a racket !!

From my searching, the only place I've been able to find the charger is ordering through HP directly by phone. The cradle (Model #L2508-80001) is $19.36 and the adapter (Model #L2508-80002) is $20.75. You have to purchase both for the charger to work. If I can't find anything better, I'm gonna have to get this...geez...half the price of the whole camera.

I misplaced my charger for the R 742 when I moved. HP does not sell a replacement charger for this camera!!! I did an online chat with a sales rep who referred me to an HP products online store, but the charger for this particular camera is not available. I haven't been able to locate through any other outlet yet. So one of the best compact digital cameras was manufactured with planned obsolescence? Thanks a lot, HP.

I ordered a Fuji charger (HS-DCHFJ40) $9.99 and an extra Fuji battery (HS-DC40) $12.31 from batteries.com. They work great with the HP-742 camera. also included with the charger is a car charger cord. The original HP-742 battery also works with the charger if you cut/file/break off the plastic bump (polarity guard) on the end of the battery.

THere is also a page to list several other batteries that HP recognises as OK for this model. Like #7 above you might go to the store and check it out. Most places will allow you to open the box and check. Then they dont have to deal with the return. just take it to the salsman and let him do it.

i lost my charger for my R742. when i called earlier today to order a new charger the sales rep said that they discontinued the line of cameras so I cant get the charger either! how ridiculous! is there any where i can get a charger? i really do NOT want to go buy a new camera JUST because the charger is irreplaceable.

Stephanie, I could sell you the replacement set I just bought from HP a few months ago. My parents thought they lost theirs so I had to buy a new one. A few weeks later, they found the original one. It's $40 for the adapter and cradle as stated in comment #4. Just let me know if you want it. I can get it from them over the Christmas holiday.

As you can see from the entries #7 and #9 there are alternatives. I did the same as #7, with out the extra battery. It was 12 dollars to my door and works just as they said. I am back in business taking pictures. I also had to clip the tab off my battery so it could fit, but that was a simple matter.

Charging of batteries has to do with the voltage of the battery. The charger will continue to charge until it sees this voltage rise to the correct level. The difference in the NP 40 and NP60 is its capacity to hold a charge. They both have the same 3.7 volts. They also both have the same configuration of pins. Thus you should be able to charge using the same charger. Just will take longer to charge a 60 and less time to charge a 40.
Indeed to verify this there is a gharger that does both.
