I3A Press Release
I3A is Putting Magic into PMA 2005 on Feb. 21: Free Technical Forum, “Making Images Mobile;”
I3A Spotlight Reception and Annual Leadership Award
White Plains, N.Y., Feb. 1, 2005 — The International Imaging Industry Association (I3A), the leading global association for the imaging industry, will add magic to the mix for attendees at the upcoming PMA 2005 conference, to be held February 20-23 in Orlando, Fla.
On Monday, Feb. 21, from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm, I3A will hold a Technical Forum entitled “Making Images Mobile,” sponsored by Hewlett-Packard, Konica Minolta and Fuji Photo Film., which will focus on the standard for sharing and transmitting images, PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol), which was developed by an I3A Image Technology group. PTP is the foundation for the popular PictBridge specification, and work is underway to expand PTP to include transport over IP, Bluetooth and Infra Red.
Also on Monday, Feb. 21, I3A will present its prestigious annual Leadership Award, at a special ceremony during the magic-themed I3A Spotlight Reception, which is sponsored in part this year by Hewlett Packard, Felix Schoeller Jr., GmbH and Future Image. Each year since 1980, I3A has recognized one individual in the international imaging community who has best exhibited the exemplary qualities and innovative vision of a leader. Previous recipients include Shigetaka Komori of Fuji Photo Film Co. (2004), Friedrich Hujer of Agfa-Gevaert (2003), Philippe Kahn of LightSurf Technologies (2002), and Daniel Carp of Eastman Kodak Company (2001).
“Once a year I3A has the great privilege to publicly honor an industry leader who has dedicated himself or herself to making a very significant contribution to our industry,” said Ted McNeff of Eastman Kodak Company, Chairman of I3A. “Presentation of the I3A Leadership Award, and publicizing this accolade, is a highlight of our activities at PMA.”
At the Technical Forum, experts from the I3A member community will deliver presentations and invite discussion with attendees. The agenda will include:
Keynote: “Making Images Mobile — Harnessing the Power of the Picture Transfer Protocol,” Eran Steinberg, CEO of FotoNation, Project Leader for ISO 15740
“Wireless Connectivity for Digital Cameras,” Craig McGowan, Strategic Business Development Manager, Eastman Kodak Company
“Printers Without Boundaries: Mobile Printing Solutions for User Flexibility,” Ramon Garrido, HP Director of Strategic Alliances
“Dial M for Mobility: Cameraphones & Wireless Services,” Yat-Sang Hung, Chief Scientist of Device Usability, Sprint Corporation
“China: Mobile Billing Technologies & Business Models,” Bradden Wondra, Director, Digital Imaging Services China, Kodak China Investment Company Limited
“Future Technology Advances Fostering Image Mobility,” a wrap-up panel/Q&A session featuring all speakers
“Every year at PMA, the imaging community gathers to learn about the new products, services and technologies that will drive our industry forward,” said I3A President Lisa Walker, “and this year, with PTP increasingly in the news as its adoption by leading companies rapidly grows, I3A has the opportunity to benefit our industry by sharing our collective knowledge in the I3A Technical Forum.”
The Technical Forum will take place at the Orange County Convention Center. Admission is free, but space is limited: anyone interested in attending should RSVP at http://www.i3a.org or call +1 781-876-6269 to reserve a seat.
This year, the I3A Spotlight Reception boasts an added feature, a special book signing: authors Alexis Gerard and Bob Goldstein are introducing their new book Going Visual: Using Images to Enhance Productivity, Decision-Making and Profits at PMA 2005. I3A is pleased to offer reception attendees this opportunity to meet the authors and acquire autographed copies of this valuable volume, which shows how today’s technology makes it possible to use - in everyday practical business circumstances - visual tools that capture the richness of the information people want to convey. The book also demonstrates how businesses can harness the power of digital images and video to streamline information flow and communicate more effectively. Alexis Gerard is the President and founder of Future Image, an Associate Member of I3A; Bob Goldstein is a well known consultant in the digital imaging industry.
Limited PMA sponsorship opportunities are still available - for information on how to put your company’s message in the “spotlight” at I3A’s PMA activities, call or email Shannon Taylor, firstname.lastname@example.org or +1 781-876-6223.
Activities specifically for I3A members are also scheduled at PMA 2005; member representatives can learn more and register on the I3A Web site at members.i3a.org.
