JPEG XR from Microsoft Approved

MicrosoftThe new JPEG XR image file standard proposed by Microsoft has just been approved by the countries participating in the Joint Photographic Experts Group. According to a report by CNET News, work will now begin on defining the standard, which will begin later this month. Formerly referred to as the HD Photo file format, JPEG XR (“extended range”) promises better image fidelity, higher image compression efficiency and flexible editing features.
