Available from camera care specialists Just Ltd, Lens Bands are a new solution to zoom creep. “Some manufacturers fit zoom locks to their products, but many don’t. Of course, some lenses are fine when new but develop a bit of creep as they age and the zoom mechanism wears a little,” said Just’s Peter Brogden. “The obvious solution is to use a Lens Band and banish lens creep forever!” Available at £5.95 each, Lens Bands come in a choice of colours, and fit all SLR zoom lenses regardless of brand.

Lens creep – now it can be ban(ne)d!

EVER SUFFERED from lens creep, that annoying habit that zoom lenses have of growing in length when they’re pointed down? It’s irritating at best but it can also lead to expensive damage if the camera swings and the lengthened lens bangs into an obstacle.

Now there’s a quick, simple and effective way of overcoming this problem.

Lens Band is a patent pending silicone band designed with just the right amount of elasticity to stop the lens growing (or shrinking if it’s pointed upwards) without the photographer’s knowledge.

Available from camera care specialists Just Ltd, Lens Bands fit all SLR and DSLR zoom lenses regardless of brand, are also great to have on hand if you want remove a stuck filter and come in a choice of colours so you can personalise your lens in seven different ways.

Said Just’s Peter Brogden: “Some manufacturers fit zoom locks to their products, but many don’t. Of course, some lenses are fine when new but develop a bit of creep as they age and the zoom mechanism wears a little. You can’t turn off gravity, but neither can you always hold your lens horizontal, so frustration sets in when lens creep occurs during normal use – and there’s always the risk of serious damage too.”

He went on: “You could try using rubber bands, but that doesn’t always work. Standard bands are usually too thin to be effective, they break and are hard to handle.

“You could try taping the lens but you risk getting adhesive on your expensive lens and in any case the tape could dry up and fall off.

“The obvious solution is to use a Lens Band and banish lens creep forever!”

Lens Bands are available from Just at £5.95 each – http://www.cameraclean.co.uk.
