Kodak 5500, 5300 and 5100 All-in-One Printers
Kodak All-in-One printers promise to save customers up to 50% on everything they print. For every £10 / $15 spent on colour ink and £7 / $10 spent on black ink, you can print the same number of pages at half the cost of other consumer inkjet printers. When the KODAK Photo Value Pack is purchased, a 4 x 6-inch photo costs as little as 7 pence / 10 cents per print. In the UK, the Kodak 5300 AiO will be available in May 2007; the Kodak 5500 is expected to begin shipping in June 2007. In the USA, beginning in March 2007, the Kodak 5100 and Kodak 5300 AiO Printers will retail exclusively at Best Buy, whilst the Kodak 5500 is expected to begin shipping in May 2007.
Update: We now have some photos of pre-production printers taken at the UK press launch in London earlier today. Kodak have spent $500 million and 3.5 years of development time to enter the inkjet market, aiming to provide quality and ease-of-use at up to half the cost of their rivals. Interestingly, Kodak don’t make money on their digital cameras, hence the move into inkjet printing. Expect to see more models in 2007.
Kodak UK Press Release
Kodak Revolutionises the Inkjet Industry
New Line of All-In-One Inkjet Printers Produces Durable, High-Quality Documents and Photos;
Low-Cost Premium Inks Save Customers up to 50 Percent on Everything They Print
LONDON, Feb. 6, 2007 - Eastman Kodak Company (NYSE: EK) today entered the consumer inkjet industry with a revolutionary new product line for the home.
KODAK EASYSHARE All-in-One Printers will enable consumers to affordably print crisp, sharp documents and KODAK lab-quality photos at home using premium, pigment-based inks that will save consumers up to 50 percent on everything they print. The two new printers provide ultimate levels of print quality and ease-of-use, while offering low total cost of ownership compared to other leading consumer inkjet printers on the market.
“After today, the inkjet market will never be the same,” said Antonio M. Perez, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Eastman Kodak Company. “We are changing the rules in this industry to ensure that consumers can affordably print what they want, when they want, easily and at the high level of Kodak quality they’ve come to expect.”
“For far too long, people have felt restrained from printing due to the high cost of ink,” Perez said. “Our new system gives consumers the freedom to print documents and photos frequently, easily and affordably with exceptional quality that lasts a lifetime under typical home display conditions. Our extensive history in printing, combined with our legendary dedication to the consumer, puts us in a unique position to revolutionise inkjet printing.”
Finally - Inks for People Who Like to Print
The KODAK EASYSHARE AiO Printers use Kodak’s premium, pigment-based ink, priced at £6.99 for a cartridge of black ink and £9.99 for a five-ink colour cartridge (RRP). For every £10 spent on colour ink and £7 spent on black ink, consumers can print the same number of pages at half the cost of other consumer inkjet printers. When the KODAK Photo Value Pack is purchased, a 4 x 6-inch photo costs as little as 7 pence per print.
According to a study by InfoTrends, the greatest obstacle to printing at home is the cost of ink and supplies.
“For years, the high price of inkjet cartridges has kept consumers from freely using their printers,” said Perez. “With the most affordable premium ink ever, families can now create crisp documents and Kodak lab-quality photos at home.”
All-In-One Printers Available from May - Featuring KODACOLOR Technology
The KODAK EASYSHARE AiO Printers feature exclusive KODACOLOR Technology that enables consumers to cost-effectively print crisp documents and Kodak lab-quality photos. KODACOLOR Technology is a combination of four key elements - pigment-based inks, micro-porous photo papers, colour and image science, and the Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems (MEMS) print head - that deliver outstanding results for general purpose printing of text and graphics and stunning colour photos that are sharp and vibrant.
* The KODAK EASYSHARE 5100 All-in-One Printer ($149.99 US MSRP), featuring print, scan and copy capabilities, delivers high-quality documents and photos for users who enjoy printing without limitations. The device can print and copy up to 32 pages per minute in black and 22 pages per minute in color, and print photos from PICTBRIDGE-enabled cameras without involving a PC. (US Only model)
* The KODAK EASYSHARE 5300 All-in-One Printer ($199.99 US MSRP), features print, scan and copy capabilities, delivers high-quality documents and photos for users who enjoy printing without limitations. The device can print and copy up to 32 pages per minute in black and 22 pages per minute in colour. It also offers a 3-inch colour LCD display that enables photo viewing and cropping directly from the printer. Memory card slots provide an additional quick and simple way to print digital pictures without a PC.
* The KODAK EASYSHARE 5500 All-in-One Printer ($299.99 US MSRP) is the perfect solution for home-office users and connected families who want to do it all with no constraints. In addition to sharing the features of the 5300 printer, the 5500 has fax functionality and includes a 2.4-inch colour LCD display, an automatic document feeder and a duplexer attachment.
The KODAK EASYSHARE 5300 AiO will be available in May 2007; the 5500 is expected to begin shipping in June 2007. Online shoppers will be able to purchase the printers in June 2007 at the Kodak Store (http://www.kodak.com
).
Kodak Spills the Ink on the High Cost of Printing
Kodak’s unique marketing campaign for its inkjet solutions, which is intended to raise awareness of the high cost of printing in the consumer inkjet market, was previewed at the NBC Studios in New York City. The company also introduced a new web site - http://www.inkisit.com
- to provide consumers with an entertaining look at issues surrounding traditionally high-cost ink.
The site includes interactive games; videos of a comedic, mock-TV show called “Ink Is It”; a print-cost calculator for consumers to determine how much they are currently spending on ink; and detailed information about the new line of products. Over the next few months, Kodak will release several new videos, introduce new prize contests and provide other interactive, consumer-oriented features on the web site.
“For too long, consumers have complained that ink costs too much; that quality, durability and longevity is not good enough; and that printers are too hard to use,” Perez said. “That stops today - because of Kodak and our revolutionary approach to inkjet.”

I purchased a 5100 about 2 weeks ago and have been putting it to the test. Thus far I am very impressed with the print quality, and quantity. Kodak's claim of $.10 per print cost is accurate using their picture pack ink and paper, perhaps even a little conservative. It was a little difficult for me to get used to the "automatic" driver but thus far I have had excellent results with several different brands of photo paper. The more I get used to it the more I like it's simplicity. I have put fresh prints under running water to test the water fastness they do not run, fantastic results.
I have not used it much to print text or similar type documents so no input on that.
Being pigment type ink prints are not as glossy as those coming from my dye based canon ip6700 but they do seem sharper.
It is nice to be able to afford to print the quantity of photos that I like. Hopefully they will manufacture a large format printer in the future. Yeah Kodak!

purchased 5300 on 14th June. very good results ,with the exception, Be aware it will not print on Kodak Ultima Paper the sensor will not determine which side up the paper is due to Gloss back and heavy logo. Using Kodak ULTRA premium Photo paper solves the problem as it has a matt back side and a bar code which the printer recognises. Some other brand papers such as Epson Premium Glossy will print SOMETIMES !!
hope this helps any one buying one and having problems with paper going straight through

I agree with comment re lack of help I was actually told by operator on kodak uk help line that she could not help as she was unfamiliar with the model The information I recd (previously posted )was given by PCworld who were most helpful and spent some considerable time researching why the printer would not take some papers. I did e mail kodak help but had an email back telling me to phone the help line !!

I cannot comment on the print quality but it looks fine to me. Having enourmous software glitches with this printer. It will print word but not other applications. It tells me I dont have the right size paper a4 in when I do. It doesnt recognise the USB cable and keeps telling me it is swithed off when it is not. then another time it is fine. I do all the usueal checks, power testing cables on another system. cannot use scanner from kodak application have to go through desktop MS application then it works.
tried rebooting removing and reintroducing software and that often fixes it. All other printers fine on thes computer? This is a new one last week!!!

I also get the error that tells me it doesn't recognize the printer and that it's switched off. A couple friends told me that I may be using a cable other than USB 2.0, or that the body of the cable connector is not allowing it to seat properly into the female connection on either the PC or the printer. I will try correcting this tonight and see what happens.

I have been using the Kodak 5100 for almost a year now. I am having trouble getting it to feed Somerset Textured paper. It keeps giving me a wrong paper size message. The paper is 8 1/2xll and is loaded in the proper tray.
The weight is 225 gsm. Is there a way to set the paper type?

Hi Susan, this was the problem i was experiencing when i posted my original blog it appears that this printer is very touchy about any paper other than kodak I have been informed by retailer that it is to do with the back of the paper rather than the front or type if it does not have the kodak bar code or is a bit shiney on the back the sensor wont recognise it and sends up various error messages. hope this helps. brian

Recently purchased a Kodak AiO 5500 - great especially the ADF but software a huge disapointment. Bought mainly for scanning documents in to pdf's and find software or AiO 5500 does not appear to handle mixture of full A4 and shorter than A4 length documents without losing lower blocks of image. Never had this problem when using several other kind of scanner using software supplied or using Adobe Acrobat 7 Pro. Software lets an otherwise good product down.

I bought my 5500 AiO in January, 2008 from one of the home shopping shows. I wish I had followed my instincts when I saw the demo machine malfunction on air. Of course, it was played off.
Anyway, everything was fine until I replaced my cartridges about 2 months after purchasing. The color worked fine, but the black didn't. Tried the cleaning, calibration, etc. Family illness kept me from dealing with this so in the meantime, I printed word documents in blue ink. Began dealing with this again in May. I printed a calibration page using photo paper but when I placed it on the scanner, the machine made this strange grinding noise and now the scanner recognizes nothing. I have also been unable to fax though I've only tried twice. And so, I now have three detailed sets of directions from Kodak support to try and fix these bugs. In the meantime, I've ordered a Lexmark AiO. I've had no problems whatsoever with their products and I'm dreading having to pay the costs of their ink, but if the new machine operates just as my previous Lexmarks, it will be worth it.

My 5300 aio printer has been driving me mad! prints colour fine but no black text. am relieved to read its not just me having this problem. have spent 2 wks troubleshooting my computer and printer and in constant email contact with Kodak, they have sent new cartridges but this is NOT the problem.
advised to down load firmware to fix the problem but even that won't install as it does not receognise the printer!
Kodak must realise this is a universal problem by now and at leat try and redeem some customer satisfaction. Their reputation is at risk after all.
Any suggestions as to how to fix my problem other than purchasisng another product?

NO BLACK INK. Has been working fine. The 5100 was a birthday gift in January. For no apparent reason the black quit working today. Tried new ink, multiple printer head cleanings and calibrations, powering on and off. Nothing. I was relieved to find this by using google to search for "kodak 5100 black ink doesn't work" and finding so many others with the same problem. I called support and couldn't understand the person who was to help me. I'm brokenhearted because I really did like this printer. It's way too soon for it to give out though.

Shannon,
Don't give up. Call Kodak until you get someone that you can understand.
They will send you a new printhead, along with new cartridges via DHL next day delivery. It is very easy to remove the old printhead and install the new one. There is no cost to you and the printer will work like it's brand new again.

I wish I had never bought a Kodak printer. It's been one thing after another since the day I first installed it. I have the Kodak 5100, and I've wasted so many hours trying to get it to work. At first the colors were only lilac and blues, and I also couldn't get it to scan correctly. I bought new ink, then uninstalled and reinstalled the printer as tech support suggested. It printed great for a short time, then completely stopped printing black text at all. I can print color photos, and the color is good now, but what use is a printer if you can't print text? I've tried everything I can think of, or have read to do. I don't know what else to do except give up and save to buy another printer. I have to say this printer does save money on black ink because I can't get any on paper!

I bought a Kodak 5300 and used it very little. I printed about 30 pages, then the black ink quit working. I had a lot of pages that I had to print for ebay, so I found this blog where they paper quality was mentioned as the problem. I got out some photo paper that I had and the black printed perfectly. After that I tried using some other expensive paper that I had and no black ink again. I guess I'll go buy Kodak paper and hope for the best. I did change the ink first and performed maintenance repeatedly before I found this page. Don't give up, get good paper!

My daughter has a laptop that operates Windows Vista. When connecting up to the 5300 the web (most recent) installation gets as far as 'waiting to download drivers', or words to that effect after connecting the usb cable and then the green progress bar (for the drivers)continues to spool round. Vista also says that usb supported printers should be recognised and installed automatically but nothing happens. I don't know for certain if I have a usb 2.0 cable since it was given to me. Is this the problem or is there a software/firmware problem with the 5300?

I bought the kodak5100 because i wanted something less tedious, big mistake. The ink is cheaper but it runs out faster. I can't print from internet but i must say my pictures are clear and i use the regular (store-brand)Printworks Photo Paper from Wal-Mart. Overall, i think it is more trouble than it's worth.

The Kodak 5100 All-in-one printer sucks.
After a few photo 4R prints, the unit doesn't print the same quality despite cleaning and changing cartridges. As I read previous comments from others, I believe that maybe changing printheads is the answer. But if I had to, I wouldn't anymore. No 3-in-1 printer has given me such headaches as the 5100. I'm junking it and buying an HP.

I too have a 5100 and it has stopped printing black. What a pain. But I wouldn't swap to an HP (see pafpals paragraph no. 48) as I have just put mine in the skip - it kept putting lines across photographic prints (that were otherwise superb) and - GUESS WHAT - it stopped printing black....

My husband bought the 5300 all-in-one printer last year's black friday. It was quite the "deal". Unfortunately for me 11 months later NO BLACK INK!I have an 8 page research paper due in a week and no black ink. FANTASTIC i tell ya. If anyone out there is considering buying this printer please save yourself a headache and buy HP. The last printer i had was HP, had it 5 years and NEVER was there an issue. Sure ink was a lil' more expensive but at least it lasted!

Hey, a miracle! Got it fixed! Almost hesitant to say so because as soon as you claim a solution the Law of Sod will mean it breaks again.... but it seems ok now! I downloaded an upgrade of the firmware (software built-in to the printer) from the Kodak web site and although it took an age - even on b/band - it does seem to have worked. IT PRINTS BLACK NOW. Well one page anyway - a good start. Say it softly....

I've had my 5300 for a month now. First
print on a 4X6 in colour was great. Black and white, wonderful.(used Epsom paper) Next, 8.5X11 , colour on Epsom
and all dark parts of the photos print
as light grey (no black!!!) Lack of paper catcher is annoying - must use a
catcher's mit to grab paper as it flies
over my shoulder. Also notice ink going
down quickly. Prints black fine for non
photo - but I still want to pound it.

I have a 5500. Black document printing quality is poor.. basically its not sharp and black its more dark grey and has been like this since purchased..photo quality produces good prints...I get the same sub quality if fast ,normal or best print is choosen...I've done all the necessary downloads and maintenence and ink change duties but still very poor...what can I do next? PS this is my second machine as the first one packed up week in one... while I'm on... paper catch is useless if you print more that five sheets, the rest go over the floor..Another other small issue I have, is why the hell does it take so long to get ready to print? its sounds lke its grinding the print heads to death then it keeps you waiting that litle bit longer while it flosses before saying ok, you can go out to play now.....Also, I know that the ink is cheaper than all the rest..BUT does it evaporate or something because without counting the A4 sheets or one or two photos printed I'm using a lot of Ink.
If I can't resolve the print quality soon I'll have to good back to HP

I bought a 5500 and it would print at all - so drove back to pc world and got another. This has worked for a year with extremely low volume - a hundred pages. And now it won't print black or colour - just a few flecks of ink. Bright two new cartidges and one good page then same story.
Feel like tossing the thing in the trash.
Going to have to get hold of a new printhead now and try that.
I went to Kodak because of their good name. But I see the unit was made in China. Between them it is a junk product :-(

The printer when not telling me it had wrong paoer size in or paper jam or no papoer worked reasonably well if totally unreliable, it never managed to scan at akll, eventually the black ink stopped working i spent 26 quid on new ink ,tried everything to get it working ,eventually i tried to remove print head carrier to replace this as advised by pc world, this snapped off so i took great pleasure in taking yhe printer into the garden an set about it with my hammer. I then purchased a HP printer it works great, kodak better stick to cameras cos they aint no good for anything else

I've had my kodak aio 5100 printer for a year now. I have not had any problems until now (today). I am trying to copy a photo, and it keeps telling me "wrong paper size". I am using the same kodak photo paper I've been using for almost a year. I am not sure why it doesn't work right now. Could you please assist/ help me.

Apropos my previous comment - paragraph 52 - my AIO printer has now stopped printing black again. For a photo (that obviously must include a bit of black) on thick photo paper it is ok - BUT printing ANYTHING like a word document or a spreadsheet - NO BLACK AT ALL AND I GIVE UP NOW. IT IS A GARBAGE PRINTER.

Re paras 58 and 52 - my Kodak AIO printer is a heap of GARBAGE and I am telling everyone how much Kodak is in deep doo-doos. I have discovered that it WILL print black - as in letters or spreadsheets - so long as I use THICK card or photo-quality paper! But to have to print letters like that ? No thanks!
My new EPSON arrived this morning...

I bought my AIO 5500 on 1/12/08 (fortunately still under warranty). A few months later the print on paper (not photo pictures) became faint. Kodak replaced the printhead. It's now doing the same thing. After trouble shooting and talking with Kodak, they are sending me a new printer and print head. I like the price of Kodak ink and the quality of the photos but the faint print is a pain. My 9 year old HP 932C is more reliable than the AIO 5500. I will not purchase another Kodak printer.
The contact number for Kodak is 800-421-6699.

My Kodak EasyShare 5500 is causing a problem with Kodak Ultra 74il paper. It keeps informing me the paper is the wrong size, but it's the same (81/2x11) as thinner paper that works perfectly. Has anyone had a problem with thicker stock paper using this printer?

I too have a 5100 and it will only print from internet not from word. I spent over an hour with Kodak on line help desk who are now sending me a print head but it will take 5 - 10 days. This is obviously a known problem so why dont Kodak do something about it.

Bought my 5500 in August 07 - it was replaced (after about 3 or 4 replacement printheads) in August 08. When the new machine came I had to reuse the old printhead (not a good idea I didn't think) ... well today it has stopped printing. I use it primarily for accepting faxes but now it won't even print its own diagnostic page. I have asked for a refund which she didn't seem to think was not possible - so will let you know how I get on. Glad in a way to know that I'm not the only one with problems - WISH I FOUND THIS SITE BEFORE I BOUGHT IT!!

This is my second 5500 printer. Almost the same problem as the first.... the ink cartridge is sending out faint pictures. The first printer we had was sending out color photos' of which all the colors bled on each other. Some photo's in green, some in just blue. Waiting for Kodak to send a new color ink cartridge for they think that migh be the problem. I think otherwise.

Mine has been intermittently printing no black for ages. Usually a head clean sorted it for a while. But its such a pain to clean the head everytime you want to print something. Now its stopped printing black altogether. What a rubbish printer. It had such promise, and great feature set. The chap in PC world said they had a lot of problems with them. I'll try a new printhead first once I've negotiated the support maze. But I guess I can now cross Kodak off my future supplier list (along with HP)...

Do not get me started on the Kodak 5100 or on the servicw online. She kept me online for over and hour and advised me to do all the things I had already done. In fact she fooled me up even more when she told me to delete the icon for my printer. However, Kodak did send me a replacement head and I'm praying it works. soooo disappointing. Do not buy this product I have read 100's of complaints and always the same problem with the printhead.

I was going to buy a Kodak printer until I read these comments. Does anyone know which printer will print on Kodak Ultima? Our old Epson would do but the new one won't. I asked Kodak for help but was just told to check the specification on the printer!

Has anyone had any luck getting Kodak to replace their 5500 with their new printer, the ESP9. I have had nothing but problems with mine and want to get a replacement but they are only offering a replacement 5500. I have no faith in the 5500 and want the ESP9 as there appears to be better reciews for this now.

I have a 5300 bought november 2007, last september had the problem with the black ink printing, they sent me a new printhead and a set of inks it worked untill about 3 weeks ago then same problem, phoned them today, the guy had no manner whatsoever and reluctantly agreed to send me another printhead, but stated as the printer is now out of warranty he would not send ink. I am in the middle of doing Open University courses so need a reliable printer, so i have decided to buy a different make of printer to hell with Kodak the ink may be cheap but not when you are using almost a full catridge trying to clean the printhead to make it work. Think i will look at a HP.

NEVER AGAIN !! The picture quality on this AOI 5100 is no where near as good as my old Espon. But it seemed to print documents OK for a while. Then the trouble started with faded colours on documents before suddenly the black ink stopped working altogether. Replaced both ink cartridges and several cleanings later still no joy. So I replaced the printhead, calibrated, cleaned some more - still no luck. Sent email to Kodak support - still awaiting reply. Don't be fooled into thinking you'll save money on ink - I've got through an entire black and colour ink cartridge just trying to get it to print correctly and still it refuses to provide any black.Everytime you clean or calibrate you seem to use 10% of the cartidge!!! This printer is almost as much of a joke as the lack of support. I've no alternative but to get another printer.... KODAK ? NEVER AGAIN!!!

If you don't use your printer (ESP 3) every day the ink will evaporated quick. I have try to get help but they dance around the problem. I talked to a woman in India (Tech Support) that didn't know what the word evaporated meant!

Attempting due diligence on the internet prior to purchase I was impressed with the glowing recommendations for the Kodak 5500 AiO. I've since come to realize the early reports were lies posted on the internet by those folks in the Philipines and India who Kodak gave American jobs to because they don't want to pay American standard wages. Imagine the training classes with a blackboard displaying a model of praise for this junk product and an instructor encouraging paraphrasing (likely rewarding the more entusiastically blatant untruth).
Made in China (has that ever meant more than cheap junk?) and complaints received in New Delhi and Manilla, Kodak would have we fools believe they are an American company. There is no longer any pride in manufacturing, there is only the Big Lie of the new, predatory capitalism, where anything goes as long as it vacuums up American dollars and gets the product over the curb, beyond the empty warranty (wherein the large print giveth and the small print taketh away).
Office Depot, where I bought this crapolla a year ago, not only doesn't carry this anymore (or its ink) but the lady nearly ran from me when I went in to complain.
It never interacted well with my computer, the Kodak forced (if you let them) downloads and updates made things worse, Kodak would supercede your own photo programs (try and take a picture from your own gallery and print it in, say 4X6) and now, after buying new cartridges (far too soon) it is turning everything green! Shortly after we got ripped off on this thing my girlfriend was on the phone for 8 hours (no exaggeration) with zero satisfaction.
If the serial number couldn't be traced to us I'd drive to Rochester and throw it through Kodak headquarters window.
I'd rather read Sarah Palin's book, live next door to 'W' in Dallas or attempt to kiss Mike Tyson than use this overpriced, electricity guzzling paperweight.

I bought a kodak ESP5 AIO ten months ago and im now on my 3rd printer. All 3 have had different problems, my newest won't print from my laptop at all, so I tried a USB stick and it only showed 1 out of 1 photo on the stick when there is 103! So finally I thought i'd just take my latest photos from my XD card and you know what it DOESN'T FIT!!!!!
My 1st was brilliant at printing photos till it lost all power. My 2nd never printed right, the quality was terrible then it started to give me errors, tell me I was out of ink when the cartridge was new and paperjams when there was nothing in there (it was the printerhead).
Going to go to trading standards to see if they can help get me a refund because when I get Kodak to agree to one nothing ever happens and there's always no record of it on my account.

I have an ESP3 printer. Not been able to print from it at all for a while and finely I can now print. But as with the other Kodak models I couldn't print word documents. When I changed the font to red it works so must be same problem everyone else has been having. So, how long exactly have Kodak known about this problem with their printers and why are they getting away with selling them still?

See comment 3rd March 2009. Of course KODAK know. What is criminal is that the media let them get away it. A new print head solved it for me. Tell KODAK you need one - be nice - they must get this all the time.

My Kodak 5500 stopped working. Tried new Kodak ink Cartridges and Kodak sent me a new print head. Still only get blank pages. Excellent machine when it was working and worked well for just over a year. Used about one new set of cartridges a month, sometmes more. The cartridges are not too expensive but seem to deplete very fast. Want to replace it with a printer of the same case color as it looks so good. Where can I find one?

KODAK 5500-[YOUR "NIGHTMARES" BEGIN]ITS ALL ABOUT
YOU IN THE HANDS OF THE DESIGNERS OF THE KODAK 5500. THIS MACHINE IS INFAMOUS FOR SAYING--
"COLOUR OR BLACK INK CARTIDGES NEED REPLACING"---
"REPLACE COLOUR OR BLACK INK CARTRIDGE"----
YOU CANNOT BELIEVE THIS AS YOU MAYBE JUST REPLACED 'BOTH' INK CARTRIDGES--AND ONLY AFTER
PRINTING MAYBE 2/3 A4 COPIES.
WHAT THEN IS THE RESULT---'YOU ARE THEN "LOCKED-OUT" OF THE KODAK 5500---RED LIGHT 'FLASHING'.
SO THE 5500 LAST WORDS BEFORE IT 'DIED' WAS----
"FEED ME MORE £'$ MONEY[INKS].
ARE YOUN FRUSTRATED AT THIS POINT !!!!---THIS IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT---WHAT DO YOU SAY *f*cb.
JUST AS ALL THE STATEMENT /COMENTS ABOVE SAY--=
"A [NEW PRINTHEAD] IS WHAT SOLVED IT----BUT FOR HOW LONG ??????????????????????????????????????.
THE POOR SALES STAFF AT KODAK TAKE THE 'BRUNT' OF
ALL THE KODAK 5500 DOWNFALLS , EVEN THE ASSEMBLY
WORKERS OF THE 5500 AT THE 'CHINESE PLANTS.
BUT THE REAL "CULPRITS"----ARE THE [DESIGNERS]
OF THE KODAK 5500---ITS THEM THAT WE SHOULD PUT
THE 'SPOLIGHT' ON----THEM WHO GAVE YOU THIS--
"NIGHTMARE" /"FRUSTRATION"/"AGITATION"--THEY GET
'EXCELLENT SALARIES FOR DESIGNING----KODAK 5500.

I really liked my 5500. It was pleasing to the eye as the case color was great. That's all History now. Kodak can't fix it and they do not have any more of them. The printer lasted only 18 months and I paid too much for it to start with. Now my pages cost has shot up from about .12 per sheet to about $1.86 per sheet. The printer cost does need to be taken into consideration or you do not get the true picture. I've gone back to an HP Printer and now they make the big profit each month on ink. Oh well, thats life.

So now im going to buy an Epson or HP, i do have an old HP which is 6 years old and prints lovely photos and stuff, think im going to nick it back from my daughters room and get her a new one...Kodak your so crap....

I still think the Kodak 5500 was the best printer ever developed when it is working. Why can't it be repaired with some easy fix? I'm still hoping Kodak will make another printer that looks as nice and has a similar if not exact case as the 5500. That Black colored crap they are trying to sell would never fly at my house.

I bought a 5300 1 year ago and I am not happy. I have had a problem with the ink cartridges, they dry up within a week and this has been occurring since I bought the printer. I called Kodak and they sent me a new printer head and said to keep the cartridges in the printer and they will not dry up. I took their advice and it took just a few days for the cartridges to dry up with the new print head. So, I decided to remove the cartridges and replace the orange shipping on the cartridge, then seal it in a zip lock freezer sandwich back being careful to remove as much as before sealing the bag. This has not worked too well, but as a result of this action, it appears as if the cartridges will register empty regardless of the amount of ink in the cartridges.
Currently, I would like to print a diagram of a patio door lock to take to the hardware store for reference. The black cartridge is 1 day old and is half full and the color cartridge is 4 days old and is out of ink and I cannot print in black and white without a color cartridge, as well as, the unit will not allow documents to be scanned into PDF files unless the cartridges are both installed a have some amount of ink for printing.
I am very disappointed in the Kodak product and will be replacing it today.

I bought a 5300 last year but only set it up about 6 months ago, worked fine for about 5 months. I replaced the inks twice (I print off quite a few photos), but this time it won't print black the yellow is really faded. I went to the kodak site did what the trouble shooter said and lo and behold it told me it was a pinthead problem. I emailed Kodak and have had a reply saying they will send me a new printhead...so now have to wait and see...oh and I have only ever used Kodak photo paper in it.
I did search the net for answers and found out that lots of people are having the same problem..you'd think Kodak would do something about this... can't see me buying a Kodak printer again...my lexmark lasted years and my sons hp one is still going strong and that was bought at the same time as the Kodak one (and his was an ex display one)...

The printer worked great for about a year, excellent quality. Note the printer head stopped working but Kodak sent a new one free of charge (happy with service). Also having problem with scanning to a memory chip as it doesn't save. Worked great until recently.
It worked great for awhile, but now I get a heavy 3 inch blue color down the entire page. Can I get help on how to correct this problem. Overall im pretty happy with the printer as long as there is a quick solution.

Kodak 5500:
3rd print head, sick to the back teeth of buying new ones, they always fail with the same fault and surprisingly enough fail out of warranty. Great money maker KODAK.
Cannot print black and white when colour ink cartridge is empty, hardly use colour ink the cartridges must time out. STUPID feature why cant you fix this, it's not hard when the ink is out and I need to print in colur I WILL BUY A NEW CARTRIDGE, let me print in black and white so at least i can get my work handed in on time.
Will be buying a different brand as I am completely dissatisfied with this printer/ service. Print and prosper is a joke.
Bet any money this post will never make it online, will be removed no doubt.

I replaced my Kodak with an HP C5540 Photosmart. HP no longer makes this beautiful machine. The newer HP models are a bunch of junk that is worse then the Kodak so Until HP shapes up I'd look at other brands. I can't believe that HP can't make a good looking machine like they used to. Same for Kodak. They both sure love the ugly black color.
