Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z3 Imminent?
Well, UK-based Digital Camera Magazine certainly thinks so, as their latest email newsletter that I got today has this interesting tidbit of information:
“PRODUCT NEWS: Yet another monster zoom DiMAGE
It seems like only yesterday that we got review samples of the 10x zoom DiMAGE Z2, but Konica Minolta has already announced its successor - you’ve guessed it, kids, the DiMAGE Z3. Anyone who’s just bought the Z2 will be cheesed off, as the Z3 has an even beefier 12x optical zoom, as well as anti-shake technology and predictive focus control, for the same money. The all-glass GT APO lens bodes well, too, as does the proprietary CxProcess II image processing technology. The Z2 gets a ‘Best Value’ award in a group test of power zooms in the new issue of Digital Camera Shopper, so we can’t wait to test this new one!”
So if the Z2 is currently on your shortlist of possible new purchases, you may want to wait a while to see what develops…

Phule, I would normally agree with you if this was from an internet forum, but this info is from the Digital Camera Magazine, Digital Camera Shopper and Digital Photography Techniques "MEGAPIXEL" Newsletter - all respected UK magazines.
I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

this is very interesting... but can anyone back this up? I mean - it's weird that this piece of news has ONLY appeared in a newsletter from dc mag.. I can't find it anywhere else on the web.
Also - with a 12x lens and IS/AS, wouldn't it be much bigger than the current Z2?

well someone said at the dpreview forum, that the z2 launched exactly 6 months after the z1... add six months to the release date of the z2 (february), and you get: August 2004.

yeah, i wonder when the z3 is slated for release. i don't think it's within my very tight budget, but i was planning to buy a z1... for sure prices will start to drop when the z3 comes out. i might even be able to afford the z2! give us the good word!

Unless its reviews should evidence heavy faults/cons (as too low battery life, bad images or the like) and unless anything better will come out in the meanwhile by Nikon or Canon (Powershot S2 IS ?) I'll be buying it next September/October, despite I still don't like Dimage Z series shape (the Black model looks finer).
PS - Why doesn't Minolta insert the Autofocus Assist light on Z cameras?

PS 2
How is it that the fastest shutter time is only 1/1000 sec, rather than 1/2000?
And how can a LCD be only 78.000 pixels on such a camera model?

PS 3
Finally, I'd be very glad to see which one will perform better between Dimage Z3 (12x Zoom, elect. CCD stabilized, 4Mpix) and Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 (12x Zoom optically stabil., 5 Mp).
Best Wishes
Francesco

bad news.
Minolta has said "Late August" on two occasions, and a guy on dpreview.com who actually is reviewing the Z3 hands-on (he has pics and everything), says that Minolta Thailand is saying late SEPTEMBER!!! Amazon.com lists 21 Sept. as release date.. :[

I bought the Konica Minolta Dimage Z3 one week ago. Here are my comments:

positive aspects:
* the camera is very fast, it feels simply awesome to shoot some photos with it, altogether the handling is very good
* the best feature is definitely the 12x zoom with anti-shake. It may seem unbelievable but you can take perfectly sharp pictures at telephoto without the use of a tripod
* the UHS capture and movie mode are great
* a lot of manual features
* reasonable price
negative aspects:
* images are quite noisy
* the saturation is (below) average
* the camera does not fit into my pocket
My conclusion is:
If you are an enthusiastic amateur like me, this is the perfect camera for you. Although the image quality is a little disappointing all of the other features make this a wonderful camera.
