Mark Goldstein | Digital SLR Cameras | July 28, 2005 | 5 Comments

Konica Minolta Dynax 5DPhotoHobby.net published a preview of the new entry-level Konica Minolta Dynax 5D digital SLR camera that was announced last week.

“Picture quality between 7D and 5D is no virtually difference. I’ve tried both camera using JPEG Extra Fine setting. With the same scene, JPEG file from both camera has almost identical in size. With closer look, there is no way to tell the different between the 2 cameras.”

Gentlepeople!

I follow closely many digiforums and have been quite pleased with the info I have gotten.
There is one nagging feature I still do ot like: how come dome of your reviews are written in some exotic language ( mine included in principle, though you donīt publish any Finnish text. Why are they not translated into English??? Can you expect the reader being able to read f.ex. this story? It surely cannot be a economical matter! I think you should ban all but English stories, the possible Finnish ones, too. As it now is these stories serve only their own counties.

Yours,

Ilkka Vartiovaara, M.D.

I link to non-English reviews and articles for several reasons:

Not all of my visitors come from English speaking countries - therefore I don't assume that all of my visitors will only be interested in English articles.

Often a non-English website reviews a new product before anyone else.

Often a non-English website has lots of sample pictures etc, so that you can still learn something from the article.

You can translate most languages into English anyway online grin

DIWA (of which PhotographyBLOG is a member) is a largely non-English organisation.

Fair reasoning but I'd also point out that the membership of DIWA is neither here nor there for the average camera enthusiast. I'm more concerned that the reference to so many reviews clutters up a good site - finding a page that's more than a week old can be laborious.

I have to agree with J. Dunn on this one. Navigating back to previous articles is no picnic on your website. If you know the article you are looking for, then it is a simple matter to use your Google search, which works quite well. However, if you have not been to the website in a week (as unlikely as that may be), it is definitely a chore to navigate back through the multitude of articles for the week.

Even so, I do not think elimination of non-English article links is the answer. If for no other reason, I enjoy ocassionally emailing those links to my English speaking friends telling them I just read a great review and they should check it out.

Here is a proposed solution. Since you already have a "Latest News" column listing the latest 10 articles, why not put a "View Latest 100 Articles" link at the bottom of the list, similar to the "View all 91 Reviews" link at the bottom of the "Latest Reviews" list. That should be plenty of old news to look through, even for the tardiest of readers. smile

One other feature I would like to see is a Spell Checker for your Comment Editor, as I "ocassionally" misspell words. smile
