Leica D-Lux 4 Safari Edition
Leica Camera has announced the autumn launch of a special, olive green edition of the Leica D-Lux 4 digital compact camera. The metal body of the Leica D-Lux 4 SAFARI is protected by an anodised finish, which is particularly resistant to wear, Leica says. The camera also comes with a water-proof system case with plenty of space for additional D-Lux 4 accessories – such as an optical viewfinder, handgrip or flash unit. It also comes complete with a rain cape designed for photography out in the elements. Leica D-Lux 4 SAFARI has an RRP of £765 and is available in the UK from September 2009.

For the extra money I'd rather that they made a rain-proofed version of the camera so I wouldn't need the water-tight gadget bag and the rain-cover!

You're absolutely right, but Leica has always been adding new coats of paint rather than changing design of an existing camera...
They are a super-conservative manufacturer who counts on super-conservative buyers (not even photographers, but BUYERS).
That said, I am full of praise for the image quality that Leicas produce. I own a Digilux 2 and still love to use it, even though that camera has only 5 Mpx and is practically useless above ISO 100 (noise).

Oh look, another version of the Panasonic LX3 that costs twice as much and objectively has no additional benefits. PT Barnum had it right...

Phew - and Leica have the cheek to call it (LEICA D-LUX 4)a SAFARI camera!! - I'd not want to try and "shoot" a Cape buffalo with one of these things - end up with brown stuff all over the lens!
You could use it for crystal clear photos of Dung Beetles at 2.5cm ! _ Safari Indeed!!
Rather use a Lumix DMC TZ 7 like mine and see a lions tonsils at 100M!
