London Marathon 2003

Mark Goldstein | Personal | April 14, 2003 | 3 Comments

I spent most of the morning and early afternoon at the London Marathon, just down the road from Tower Bridge. Here is a selection from the 100 or so frames that I took with the Canon 10D, mainly using Al Servo mode and a large aperture of around F/4-5.6. Hopefully there will also be some good shots from the 6 rolls of film that I put through my film camera. My not so funny story of the day was managing to grab 4 shots of Paula Radcliffe on her way to breaking the World Record yet again, only to realize afterwards that the aperture was inadvertently set at F/22, resulting in slight, let’s say, “creative” blur…

Mark, This is my first time on this site so I may be way out of line here. I think posting 18 shots of the marathon is a bit much. You should boil down your day's photo's and post at most 3 of them. The way it is now the really good ones are mixed in with the Been there done that marathon shots.

Maybe, but it was more a case of showing what the 10D cn do, rather than trying to pick 3 really great images.

I don't actually think there are any great images here, but on the other hand I actually like all of them... grin

Mark, Thanks for sharing this with me. It is a
very admirable bodyt of work. shooting an event like a marathon is an incredibly difficult task. The runners cover the 26+ mile course, but you (the photographer) are stuck in one, possiblly two, locations. What ever action, other than running, has to be caught where you are standing. My suggestion, in the future, try to get the participants with some of the crowd or something to make the shot unique. Otherwise you wind up with a large number of photos of runners running, but nothing extraordinary.
Keep shooting.
