Looking Through the Louvre
A visit to the Louvre yesterday provided plenty of opportunities for classic shots of well-known scenes. Instead I tried to find a more unique angle and avoid the kind of pictures that 1,000’s of tourists were taking around me.

Mark, I notice that the depth of field is shallow enough that the door in the foreground that forms the frame for the people is slightly out of focus. Is this what you wanted, or do you think it would have been better if the door were sharp? I realize that getting it sharp might have required a smaller aperture and therefore a longer shutter speed, so it might not have been possible for this picture. I am just asking, in an ideal world if it would have been better to have the door sharp or not. When I take similar photos with things in the foreground that form frames, I am often unsure of whether to make them sharp or a little out of focus.

Yes, that is the effect that I wanted, mainly to draw attention to the people on the escalator, as I wanted them to be the principal focus of the image. A large aperture also helped to keep the subject sharp, as it was pretty dim inside the building and they were also moving (albeit slowly).
