Luminous Landscape Reviews Canon EOS 300D
Luminous Landscape owner Michael Reichmann has just published his review of the Canon EOS 300D digital SLR. Find out how the EOS 300D fared in the hands of an experienced professional landscape and wildlife photographer.
“Rather than provide a bells and whistles review, which sites like DPReview do with mind-numbing detail, it’s my intention here to see how well the Rebel accomplishes its goals, both from the consumer’s as well as Canon’s perspectives. Of course I will be comparing the Rebel to Canon’s 10D, which from an image quality perspective is almost identical, yet which costs nearly twice as much.”

I will be interested to see how Canon revamps the 10D now that the 300D is available and can be purchased for £750 body only. The 10D is currently £500 more than the 300D, for almost the same camera. Certainly the electronics are the same, so £500 for a metal body, a better mirror, and a few software features seems excessive.
Canon has been incredibly aggresive with its products and pricing so I am anticipating a revamp of the 10D within the next 6 months. My guess is an increased sensor size, to 8 or 9 Megapixels. The full frame sensor used in the 1DS is probably still too expensive so a smaller sensor (as in the 1D) could be on the cards. This would then clearly differentiate the 'amateur' 300D from the 'professional' 10D. Otherwise the 10D needs to drop to below £1000 to justify to most people that it is worth the extra expense over the 300D.
