Magnum Photographer Reviews Olympus E-1
The website Digital Journalist have published Magnum photographer Eli Reed’s enthusiastic review of the Olympus E-1 DSLR, which he used on a recent shoot in Malawi, Africa.
“The Olympus people have done it again. The Olympus E-Digital SLR system has delivered into this new digital age a camera for the ages. It is the first 100 per cent digitally designed SLR. After years of development by the Olympus engineers, they have delivered a camera that is ready-made for the professional photographer and while doing so, have introduced ground-breaking new features that leap over their professional rivals while keeping the price down to reasonable lows.”

Interesting trend continues - photographers seem to love the E-1, lab rats (e.g DPReview) dislike it. I've held one...just held it, and it felt "right" in a way no other DSLR does. But as a predominately landscape / outdoors photographer with a love of A3+ prints, I'm not so sure about that 5Mpix sensor....

I've had a brief play with the Olympus E-1 and, like you, felt that it was a really nicely balanced camera that was as nice if nicer to use than my EOS 10D. For Pro photographers who don't have to worry too much about the expense of investing in the E-1 system, it may prove attractive. For the rest of us who would have to buy a body and lenses from scratch, it may be asking too much.

I'm in the (possibly) unusual position of never having invested in a 35mm AF system, so I'm free of "legacy" concerns. I really don't have any pressing need for a DSLR (want is another matter) so I can wait for the right one to come along. An E-1 with approx 25% price cut, or an E-something with better resolution, or, darkest horse of all, a Minolta DSLR with one of their fabulous Dynax viewfinders in it would probably fit the bill. The E-1 is the closest yet.

well I could say look at this [URL below] but to be more helpful, I have an embarassingly large collection. In order of usage, Canon T90, Hasselblad Xpan, Ricoh GR1, Hasselblad ArcBody, and recently (very recently) Fuji GW670III. Also Olympus 4040Z, which is mainly used for holiday type stuff.

Apologies for having to slightly modify your post - a URL in the first few words of a comment breaks the site layout as it doesn't wrap (I really should try and fix it).
Is the Fuji a medium-format camera?
I'd love to have a go with the XPan

There was hardly any original information in this article related to the E-1. No comparison of the results/handling of this camera to analogue or other digital cameras.. All I learned is that Eli likes both the E-1 and Olympus Co.. and how the Olympus marketing department chose to call the various functions/elements in the camera.. I wouldn't call this a review, it's more like an endorsement.
