WORKSHOP: MAGNUM PHOTOS PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE
- 3 October - 4 October 2015
- Magnum Print Room, London
Learn about the business of photography with Magnum Photos and industry experts.
Breaking into the creative industries is tougher than ever before, so Magnum Photos are bringing early career photographers the opportunity to learn from expertise shared by industry experts.
Magnum’s Professional Practice event is a two-day photographic masterclass that focuses on demystifying the business of the industry, establishing a professional network of industry contacts, understanding the requirements of the market and identifying realistic entry routes into employment. Topics covered include: the modern editorial market, image licensing, commissioning for and working with NGOs, publishing photographic books, funding and organising exhibitions.
A second day focusing on Portfolio Reviews will provide photographers with an opportunity to have an honest and constructive critique of their work, by two of our industry specialists. In their professional capacities, our experts routinely work with photographers; commissioning, selecting, editing and purchasing images and are perfectly placed to provide impartial feedback.
Price £200 including lunch. Apply here.
Speakers include:
Hamish Crooks
Hamish Crooks is the Global Licensing Director at Magnum Photos. Previous to this Hamish worked at Reuters News Agency in Product Development, and at The Telegraph as a sub-editor and journalist.
Hamish will speak about the editorial market, image rights, licenses and syndication. You'll learn how to protect your rights as a photographer, how to understand what your clients are asking for, and what rates to charge for your images.

In 2005 Trolley Books received a special commendation from the Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards for its outstanding contribution to photography book publishing. Hannah Watson joined Trolley in 2005 and continues the legacy of its founder Gigi Giannuzzi, who died at the end of 2012. The gallery TJ Boulting was founded when they relocated to new premises in Riding House Street, Fitzrovia in 2011. TJ Boulting’s programme supports and represents emerging contemporary artists in all mediums, and currently hosts the BJP IPA award, which was won last year by Dominic Hawgood.
Hannah will talk about the photo book publishing market; revealing how Trolley work with photographers and what goes in to producing a publication with Trolley. Hannah will also speak about TJ Boulting's exhibition programme and advise on how to approach and produce an exhibition.
