Major PhotographyBLOG Upgrade

Mark Goldstein | PhotographyBLOG | December 9, 2004 | 7 Comments

The Content Management System that PhotographyBLOG uses has just been upgraded to a more advanced version.

What does this mean for you?
Well, you should definitely notice a significant increase in the loading speed of the site.
Most of the other changes are internal, but there are some new features like Smilies and a more secure commenting system.
We have also removed some of the less used features (the Blabber Board, Calendar). The redesign isn’t quite finished, so expect a few more cosmetic changes in the next week or so.

RSS Feeds
The PhotographyBLOG RSS feeds have also changed. Please update your feed to one of the following URLs:

RSS 1:
http://www.photographyblog.com/index.php/weblog/rss_1.0/

RSS 2

Hei Mark,

Nice work. Recent comments could be linked to that posting. Also in the comment box "Location" field is a bit vague. Where I'm currently situated? Is this really information that deserves it's own field? Maybe slightly larger box for comment, it usually get's people writing longer comments which are hopefully more valuable.

And I really miss (perhaps I'm just blind) archives section that would allow me to browse by month (perhaps even week) and by category (i'm sure you put posting in categories). Searchi is useful but sometimes I'm not so sure what I'm searching for but I know that you have made a posting about it couple of weeks ago.

Cheers,

Siim

Hi Slim - the Archives section is located just to the left of your comment! Monthly and by category.

Good points about the Comments form - I'll make a few changes.

Oh, found them now smile Perhaps put master archive link to upper right link section? Although it pushes banners down and I think that's kind of important as well.

Regarding master archive page, I really like how Jason Kottke has solved his so maybe you get some good ideas looking at it: http://kottke.org/everfresh.html

When trying to add one of the new feed urls to my aggregrator I get the following error.

"MagpieRSS: Failed to parse RSS file. (not well-formed (invalid token) at line 30, column 435))"

Hmmm, they all validate at Feed Validator.org...

http://www.feedvalidator.org

And Bloglines is working too.

What aggregator are you using?

I'll have a look into it.

I am using Feed on Feeds which is a server side aggregrator. You can find it here:

I figured out what the problem was.

The url you have is: http://www.photographyblog.com/index.php?URL=http://www.photographyblog.com/index.php/weblog/rss_2.0/
which fails with my aggregrator but shows as valid with http://www.feedvalidator.org.

When I put in the following url into my aggregrator:

http://www.photographyblog.com/index.php/weblog/rss_2.0/
it works fine.
